I don't believe in a literal transubstantiation either; our church doesn't believe that, we know it's symbolic.
In my post above, I was answering a question by More Saved than Thou, and cited some early history for the rite of the Eucharist; I didn't write that history myself; we know today that it's a symbolic act, as it says in Luke 22:
19: And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
20: Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
Maybe you didn't read another of my posts, citing these exact verses; this is what the Eucharist is based on in our church today.
