Re: Introduction & Question about "True Christian" understanding of multiple wives.

That introduction is better than most we get around here. It answers what we demand of newcomers, it is literate and polite. Thank you. It is possibly a little wordy though.
The guts of your post, I will leave to my more learned brethren to answer. We are not proponents of adultery here though and regard it as a sin.

However, I think God brought you here for a reason. It is more than that. Your avatar depicts a talking snake, just as in Genesis 3:1
Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, “Yea, hath God said, ‘Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
I do not believe that this is mere coincidence, but a sign from above.

P.S. The verses you seek for your friends are Deuteronomy 22:28-29

  • Introduction & Question about "True Christian" understanding of multiple wives.

    Greetings

I don't attend any church. I don't have a favorite Bible verse, but I find this one kind of interesting (Jeremiah 15:6) and I have not found Jesus.

    Jeremiah 15:6
Thou hast forsaken me, saith the Lord, thou art gone backward: therefore will I stretch out my hand against thee, and destroy thee; I am weary with repenting.

I happened upon this forum by accident, I was looking for the scripture where if a woman is raped by a man, she must marry him because someone I know was asking me about it. And I turned up here, I thought the commentary was satirical and I found that idea to be humorous. However, as I read more about the forums I found the "READ THIS BEFORE YOU FLAME US!" thread.

What really fascinated me was how well versed in the Bible the forum participants were. Which may not be uncommon, but my experience in discussing religious topics has shown the opposite of that to be the case.

As such, I had no intentions of coming here to troll or flame the users of the forum, but to evoke serious discussion about certain biblical things and find out how they're viewed by people who consider the bible quite literally the only truth.

    ---

I wanted to know what the True Christian view on having more than one wife was? There are some scriptures that advocate a man should only have one wife (1 Timothy 3:2 though it is speaking about the traits of an Elder / Bishop) Deuteronomy 17:17.

However, there are many scriptures that give instruction on having more than one wife. Deuteronomy 21:15, Exodus 21:10.

Isaiah talks about 7 women will take hold of one man, and in consideration of Exodus 21:10 they will take care of their own provisions so long as that man will become their head (Ephesian 5:23).

There are many instances of righteous men in the bible that had more than one wife as well.

    ---

I know most religious people would say the bible does not contradict itself, and since there are certain versus that may be read in context that would seem contradictory, that's probably seen as interpreting it incorrectly. Also, I have never read the bible strictly in the sense that I would use it to govern my life, so I am wondering what the position on something like this would be to True Christians?
