    Howdy from a noobie

Good morning pilgrims. I was interested to see what was being said on the web today about Mormons and did a google search for the last 24 hours. I came across a thread alleging problems with the Book of Mormon and I thought I'd like to join the discussion. It took a while to get registered though and if allowed to participate, I'd like to. I believe in being ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh--woman too.

I'm a grandpa, not yet retired, and love the Bible--but I can't decide which version I prefer.

I am a devout Mormon and have taught LDS theology for about 25 years in a college setting (LDS Institute of Religion). I have participated on web sites such as this before; but I'm inconsistent. Right now we're in a break between semesters so I have more time than when classes are in session. I love to read, and just finished a fascinating book that I believe is devastating to the theory of spontaneous generation of life and Darwinian evolution titled, "Signature in the Cell" by Stephen Meyer. I suspect the next book I read will be by the same author and titled "Darwin's Doubt."

    A cautious welcome, to you.

With a few Words of Christ I can demolish mormonism for you.

Deuteronomy 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

And Darwin did not believe in spontaneous generation. He believed in evolution. The two are only similar in being a viscous attack on Jesus.

    YIC
1 Corinthians 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

Revelation 22:15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

Leviticus 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

Hello Alma, and a cautious welcome to you! Such a pretty name - one of the cleaning ladies in our church (by which I mean my temporary church here in England, not Landover Baptist Church) is called Alma.

I am curious about your username, encompassing as it does both banks of the Livenza (though I suppose at least it excludes the Godless ex-Jugoslav lands of Trieste). Do tell us how you came to choose it. My husband's late step-grandmother spent a considerable number of years in Friuli, where she attempted (totally without success) to witness to the Mormon boys - always so smartly dressed, with their white shirts and well-pressed trousers, as they bicycled around Gorizia, avoiding eye-contact.

The handle was a result of frustration about 25 years ago, when I was trying to find a user name for yahoo. I tried all kinds of names that were either too short or already taken. Finally in desperation, I grabbed a compound name from Italian and it worked. I suspect those boys avoiding eye contact were doing so on bicycles trying not to become road kill from a frenetic Italian traffic model.

The name Alma comes from the Book of Mormon. Although most people named Alma are females (due to the Latin word meaning "soul,") if you find a guy named Alma, he's most likely a Mormon--or an ancient resident of Palestine (see documents from the Bar Kochba Cave).

I'm not aware of what Darwin claimed for the origins of life--that's why I referred to two things: evolution and spontaneous generation. However, most of those who subscribe to entirely random selection for the differentiation of species are left with little more than spontaneous generation for the origin of life.

Welcome to our friendly forum, dear, and thank you for the kind introduction! You're welcome to join any conversation, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts about Brother Pim's painstaking, and Spirit-Led expose of the Mormon bibles.

Hello, my name is Mary. I hope to fellowship with you! That is, unless you don't listen to church authority (Deuteronomy 17:12); are a witch (Exodus 22:17); are a homosexual (Leviticus 20:13; Romans 1:24-32); or fortuneteller (Leviticus 20:27) or a snotty kid who hits their dad (Exodus 21:15); or curses their parents (Proverbs 20:20; Leviticus 20:9); an adulterer (Leviticus 20:10); a non-Christian (Exodus 22:19; Deuteronomy 13:7-12; Deuteronomy 17:2-5;Romans 1:24-32); an atheist (2 Chronicles 15:12-13); or false prophet (Zechariah 13:3); from the town of one who worships another, false god (Deuteronomy 13:13-19); were a non-virgin bride (Deuteronomy 22:20-21); or blasphemer (Leviticus 24:10-16), as God calls for your execution and will no doubt send you to Hell, and I have no interest developing a friendship with the Spiritually Walking Dead.

It's all in the eyes of God, dear. You are, like every soul born on earth, trash (Isaiah 64:6) and destined for Hell (John 3:18) until and only unless you repent of your sinful ways and accept Christ in your heart (Romans 10:9). That means, repenting of your silly Mormon beliefs and accepting Christ for who He says He is, not for what you want Him to be.

How very prejudiced you are! Had you ever visited Gorizia (though I really don't recommend it - we went there once to help Dorothy move back to England and the food was disgusting) then you would know that the main street has broad sidewalks, incorporating cycle paths, separated from the traffic by grass verges.

That seems pretty consistent with my experience. We generally avoided those types and usually tried to convert thoroughly indecent, atheist, communists. --Remember, "they that be whole need not a physician." We were basically looking for trash rather than Christians.

Hello, Alma, and welcome to the forum! I would be very interested to hear how you can still belive in the Book of Momon despite all the evidence suggesting it was a fabrication by Joseph Smith.
