We are not especially interested in the opinions of unsaved trash. You people tend to get things all screwed up, and then throw a hissy fit when we correct you based on God's Holy Word.

How old are you? Why haven't you attended an Independent Baptist Church? Which version of the Holy Bible are you reading?

I am 40 yrs old and I do not attend any church, I have read 4 different versions of the Holy Bible and on my fifth version now, I compare them to see the difference, which I have previously stated, that they all are the same basically so far.

                    Re: Hello All

I have been fines with demerit point for calling your religion a cult, do you even know the definition of a cult? Look it up for crying out loud! Better yet from wikipedia:

Cult definitions coined from 1920 onward refer to a cohesive social group and their devotional beliefs or practices, which the surrounding population considers to be outside of mainstream cultures. The surrounding population may be as small as a neighborhood, or as large as the community of nations. They gratify curiosity about, take action against, or ignore a group, depending on its reputed similarity to cults previously reported by mass media.
The spelling c-u-l-t has at least nine defined meanings divided among positive, negative, and neutral connotations:
                    • Positive: In common or popular usage, "cult" has a positive connotation for fan groups of art, music, writing, fiction, and fashion devotees (see Cult following). "Cult" also has a positive connotation when used in the original and classic sense of veneration by any group of worshipers, though this meaning is usually applied to groups known from antiquity, including historic cults of the major religions (see Cult (religious practice)).

                    • Negative: Also in common or popular usage, "cult" has a negative connotation for new religious, extreme political, questionable therapeutic, and pyramidal business groups. Theological cults also have a negative connotation as defined by fundamentalist Christians to include both new and major religion groups. For these reasons, most, if not all, non-fan groups that are called cults reject this label.

                    • Neutral: In twentieth century and some current scientific usage, "cult" is a technical term with a neutral connotation (see Sociology of religion). Neutral usage of "cult" in sociological science has been partly replaced by the phrase new religious movement (NRM) – but not entirely: because not all sociologically-defined cults are new or religious, there was a formal objection to the term-replacing campaign as "politics of representation", and ultimately the public didn't accept the replacement term.

Between 3,000 and 5,000 neutrally-defined sociological cults existed in the United States in 1995. Since less than 200 groups have been reported by governments as cults entangled with the law, and less than 20 have been described as destructive cults, the vast majority of non-fan groups referred to as cults are well-behaved and known only to their neighbours
                    And from http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/Cult:

cult Pronunciation: \ˈkəlt\ Function:noun Usage:often attributive Etymology:French & Latin; French culte, from Latin cultus care, adoration, from colere to cultivate — more at wheelDate:1617 1: formal religious veneration : worship2: a system of religious beliefs and ritual ; also : its body of adherents3: a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious ; also : its body of adherents4: a system for the cure of disease based on dogma set forth by its promulgator <health cults>5 a: great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book) ; especially : such devotion regarded as a literary or intellectual fad b: the object of such devotion c: a usually small group of people characterized by such devotion
What seems so wrong about that? Religion or cult, call it what you will...gee wizz...

                        Dear sir,

The Bible does say to love our neighbor, and you are saying that calling your fellow Canadian neighbors all sorts of ugly names is okay? OUCH! Very contradictory to what the Bible says if I recall so... When you get attacked, don't you defend yourself? I did too...
I have read the King James version, The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures version, the New American Standard Bible and the New Revised Standard Version Bible and oh I almost forgot, the french version, la Bible de Jérusalem. So, I stand corrected, I have read it 5 times...

Did you read the chapter I linked for you? It was Matthew 23. Jesus called the Pharisees all sorts of ugly names. Are you saying that wasn't OK, or that Jesus didn't love the Pharisees?

I'm glad the NIV wasn't in that list. Many Bibles change the text to contain subtle yet heretical doctrinal changes, and the NIV is the worst offender that I am aware of.

The NASB isn't that bad. It isn't great, but it isn't bad. However, your Jehova's Witness Bible and your NRSV are almost as bad as the NIV.

I can give you a quick example.

In Acts 8, the eunuch asks Philip what he needs to do to become baptized. Philip's answer is in Acts 8:38. The authors of the NIV, NRSV, and the Watchtower bible believed in infant baptism, so they simply deleted the verse that contains Philip's answer, that one must believe to be baptized.

I can give you many more examples like that. Not all Bibles are created equal.

The authors of the NIV, NRSV, and the Watchtower bible believed in infant baptism, so they simply deleted the verse that contains Philip's answer, that one must believe to be baptized.

I can give you many more examples like that. Not all Bibles are created equal.

Funny that you say that not all Bible are created equal, because I have not found big differences between all of them at all, the only real different one was the NWT from the JWs, where they have the name Jehovah in the places of The Almighty and other God references that some others put, other than that not much different...plus it is in a more modern English than most, which is simpler to understand.

Again from my friend's references, JWs do not believe in infant baptism, they get baptized at a mature age, and that depending on the person's maturity and reasoning, and they have to answer to some 80 some questions about their beliefs to qualify for baptism, and those are just to make sure that they understand what they are doing and it's significance of baptism. My friend gave a book with all their beliefs, very interesting read I might add, it has changed my whole view on them, of course they are not perfect like anybody on this earth, but they do try their best to follow God's word like they understand it...

You haven't been looking hard enough. The differences are there. Most of them are subtle but still important.

Try this open-Bible quiz here. I know the quiz was written for the NIV, but I think you will have similar results with your NRSV or the Watchtower Bible.

Right, eliminating a few verb tenses and pronoun forms that aren't used in our modern dumbed-down speech, blurring specific meaning that was there in the original, makes it easier to understand.

Did deleting verses that the translators disagreed with also make it simpler to understand?

I didn't say one word about JW's beliefs concerning baptism. I only said that it is clear that their Bible is based upon one who's translators believed in infant Baptism, so they deleted a verse they found offensive.

Perhaps they should start with a real Bible.

Define a real Bible? KJV? HA! That is a Bible version that King James of England had written by 47 scribes or scholars from another copy of the Bible that he found offensive, and I would like anyone to prove to me that King James of England was inspired by God himself in the Bible, the Bible was written way before King James of England ever existed. Nowhere in the Bible does it mention anything of King James of England, so why should his version be the only one True Bible?

I found this on the KJV:
The translators render the Tetragrammaton YHWH or the name Yahweh by the use of small capitals as LORD or occasionally JEHOVAH, or Lord GOD (for Adonai YHWH, "Lord YHWH"), denoting the divine name. Jesus is referred to as Lord with a capital "L" and lower case "ord" as the example of the scripture in Psalm 110:1 "The LORD said unto my Lord, sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool".
You might want to explain why they did that? If Jehovah is really the English way of pronouncing YHWH why replace it? Funny how the NWT uses this name alot...
