    Hello!!! Hello!!!

My name is Joseph McCluskey, better known as Stoned Joe. "Stoned?" you may ask. Well, it's not because of any old demonweed. It's because I've been stoned to figurative death through the power of his never ending love and have been reborn as a true believer.
I am so blessed, pleased, fortunate, rich in love, and blessed to be here.
I hope to get to know you all better very soon.

Obadiah verse 4: Though you ascend as high as the eagle,
And though you set your nest among the stars,
From there I will bring you down,” says the Lord.

Let me be the first to welcome you and thank you for such an encouraging verse. God looked after The Israelites so well that after 40 wilderness years and grinding all their purloined gold to nothing (on day 40) they were able to buy provisions for 3 million odd using money.

Deuteronomy 2:5-7 Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau for a possession. Ye shall buy meat of them for money, that ye may eat; and ye shall also buy water of them for money, that ye may drink. For the LORD thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.

The wretches did not appreciate this benefit of commerce, so God sent Obadiah to announce a smiting. Christians are assured that He will care for every need just as He cared for Israel, all those years ago.

Praise the Lord, is this Ponce reincarnated? His mother will be so delighted.
If I have seen further, it is by standing on the heads of others.

Dr. Toole--Seems like we have seen this person with other names.
Isaiah 24:1-3 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty (2)...as the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. (3) The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken his word.

Maybe he's some old Joe shmoe from the Lombardy region of Italy. Mais non, non relation to our family.
I was told get thee to a rectory. But then I saw Father Maurice ministering to Jerome the altar boy which tells me it has something to do with rectums.

Hey, Joe, where you going with that gun in your hand?
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

Maybe to dispatch his old name (McCluskey) so he can mess around with another one, something more Lombardic (because McCluskey sounds too Irish) he may think. I hope he's OK. Or he may not think, of course. People say there could be a Kawésqar, or Patagonian, branch of the McCluskeys but I've not heard that confirmed.

                  How unusual!

But getting back on track, this is someone's introduction thread. He started with a joke (possibly he'd done an on-line public speaking unit) and although it wasn't a very good joke, it did at least eliminate "any old demonweed."

The discussion moved on to the prophet Obadiah and how God provided money for The Israelites after they'd destroyed all their bullion metals. You will recall how Moses was horrified to see the golden calf they'd made during his sojourn with God on the mountain and ground the thing to powder – thus getting rid of all the gold they'd brought from Egypt.

Exodus 12:35-36 And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they borrowed of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold and raiment: and the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required. And they spoiled the Egyptians.

I hope that is helpful for you.

I'm conflicted on this God fellow... he seems like a nice fellow yet wants us to destroy funny shiny metals because God doesn't like Egyptians?

anyway seems Stoned Joe will fit well in this place

Bullion metals are fine as currency – but not as idols. To collect earrings, nose grommets, ornamental collars and so on (Egyptian styles are extremely well known whether gold or wood or silver makes little difference and may be seen in home décor boutiques just about anywhere) is one thing. God was providing for His people in that way, by suggesting they "borrow" such trinkets from the Egyptians prior to departing.

So there'd be a good amount in stock, as it were.

God decided they needed laws and arranged for Moses to go up a mountain to get some. One of those laws prohibited making idols. And wouldn't you know it!! Even before Moses came back down with those very laws, The Israelites had melted down the loot and made a statue of a calf. The Bible does not describe it as "gold" but as "molten" because the stuff melted to make it was not only gold but also silver and probably copper and tin and for all I know praseodymium, boron and lead. But it would be shiny, as you mentioned, and have a golden appearance.

                      Exodus 32:4 8 19 20
v.4 And [Aaron] received [the bling] and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

v.8 [God speaking] They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

v.19 And it came to pass, as soon as [Moses] came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses' anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.

v.20 And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and strawed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.

Revolting though it is, there are two points for you to consider. Secondly, and less revolting, you will see that there was in fact a way for The Israelites to recover the bullion metals and repurpose them into currency. Perhaps this is what you were getting at? Happy to oblige in that case. Worse, much worse, is what Moses saw in verse 19. Often this is presented as a series of nude tableaux with psychedelic lighting and planned areas of shade during fashionable parties. Any "tableau vivant" is stationary and very unlikely to be what Moses saw. Remember, he had not yet arrived at the camp – but was coming down a hill so would have a good view. "Dancing" in this case would be the most dreadful orgy of pagan eurythmics ever enacted, enacted to mock God at the very time He was writing The Ten Commandments: oh how they must have writhed and ululated, slobbered all over with oils and completely off their onions on whatever toxic plants [or amphibians -ed.] were to hand. So that's the first point.

No grindcore art festival has managed that level of depravity, although certain English degenerates may have approached it in the 18th century, leaving us in no doubt that "shiny" is OK with God but idols are not. It's right there in The Bible.
