    Aspiring Baptist calls out!

Hello everyone! I stumbled over this forum in my daily hunt for wisdom, guidance, and spirituality. After reading quite a few threads I decided to join and I feel great about it. As someone still searching I fear that I may not be understood by many of you and so I would like to tell you a bit about myself in the hope that your input and advice may guide me on my journey.

I was raised Roman Catholic in a small Appalachian town in Pennsylvania by my mother and her family after being born illegitimately and abandoned by my German-American Prespbytarian father. I then moved to New Jersey and was adopted by my staunchly Catholic, English immigrant mother's parents. I attended Church and CCD until I was 13 when I refused to lie to God and receive the Catholic sacrament of confirmation into the church. For this I was really never forgiven by my mother's family and the whole thing really damaged my faith and relationship with God casting my young heart into depression and agnosticism (just not knowing WHAT to believe at that point).

Beside my consistent misunderstanding and disagreeing with the fundamentals of Catholic ideologies from a young age, I didn't understand at the time WHY I chose the path of "forsaking" the only people who cared for me and dooming myself to eternal torture and a life of misery. My father's Presbyterian family had abandoned me from a young age, never sharing their faith with me or even caring for my well being so forsaking Catholicism seemed to me like biting the only hand from which I could be fed.

Nevertheless I was compelled to go against my only family when it would have been terribly easy to just say YES to confirmation and reap the benefits (as was suggested to me by certain members of family and my friends). How many 13 year old boys have that strength and wisdom and courage I think now, but at the time there was no question in my heart it was the right thing to do. Today, as a 21 year old Anglo/Saxxon-American, living in north eastern New Jersey (predominately Catholic and Jewish) I look back and realize that without a doubt, I was divinely inspired and given the courage, clarity, and strength by God!

So now, with my character in context, I'm hoping that the Landover Baptist community can help me in my quest for the one truth. I honestly don't know much about the Baptists except that I just met one named Tracey and she is not only cute but wonderfully nice, and the joke that my grandfather once told me, "A Catholic arrived at the gates of heaven. St. Peter told him everyone is waiting for you down the hall in room 10 but be very quiet as you pass room number 8. So the man asked why what is in room 8? And St. Peter replied the Baptists and they think they're the only ones up here!" Obviously it was just a joke but the conclusion can be drawn that my Grandfather thinks that Baptists don't think he's a good man and think they're better than him so much so that he should be eternally tortured in the fires of hell!

This troubles me deeply because he is the one who took me in when no one else would and I don't think I can bare to hurt him again especially now with his condition. Please help me not only with my understanding of what it is to specifically be a Baptist and how it correctly differs from Catholocism, but how to show my family this with all of the love and consideration they deserve. THANK YOU everyone and GOD BLESS!

First of all, thank you for your polite introduction. As for your grandfather, if he is unwillingly to convert to True Christianity™, then I'm afraid he will go to Hell.

If he stays with catholicism, abandon him to his fate; it is what Jesus requires of you, after all.

    Luke 9:61-62:
And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.
And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

So, NewlySaved, what makes you say you're "saved"?

          Re: Aspiring Baptist calls out!

I have realized that the King James Version and no other bible is the word of God and I adhere to it.
I have opened my heart to Jesus Christ and accepted him as my savior.
I have realized the sins of my past and have repented.
I realize that I have only just begun down the path of the righteous and I must say it's good to see you all here.
I pray to Jesus that I may not covet your relationships with God and your progression down his path as farther ahead as you all may be.

In Ephesians 2:8 the Apostle Paul talks of salvation as a free gift. A gift must be received, or it is not a gift, but just something that was bought for another person. Until they accept it, it is not really a gift. To recieve Salvation is to accept the gift that Jesus bought for you with His own blood, and then the Holy Spirit will indwell your heart. You accept the gift by believing in His Holy name( or basically to believe Jesus was here, was killed for our sins, buried, and rose from the grave 3 days later) confessing Him publicly with your mouth, and repenting of your sins, and asking forgiveness from Him. This is what I have come here to do.

And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.

The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

If you truly want to help him then he needs to convert. Those unwilling to give themselves to Jesus will burn. It's truly sad that so many would abandon our Lord but the best we can do is convert as many of their souls and dedicate them to Christ before their time is up.

On a happier not welcome to our forums.

              Thanks for the welcoming!

There must be a way to convince one of the most loving, Christ serving, and compassionate men I have ever met that his prayers should be directed not to Mary but to the Lord himself. There has got to be words directly quoted from the Good Book which will show him that his allegiance should not be to the Pope and his Vatican but to Jesus and Jesus ALONE. I owe the man my life and I haven't much time.

blah blah blah after being born illegitimately and abandoned by my German-American Prespbytarian father. blah blah blah
I find it humorous that you claim to be "saved" when scripture tells us otherwise.

2A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD. Deuteronomy 23:2 KJV 1611
KJV 1611, Exodus 21:17 "And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall
                surely be put to death."

I disagree with Jesus not saving bastards. After all my parents SHOULD have been FORCED to marry however the laws of this nation must be adhered to and therefore my familys weren't ALOUD to force my parents into marriage.

John 13:1-20 "1 Now before the feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end. 2 And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him; 3 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God; 4 He rises from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. 5 After that he poured water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. 6 Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter said unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? 7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou know not now; but thou shall know hereafter. 8 Peter said unto him, Thou shall never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. 9 Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. 10 Jesus said to him, He that is washed need not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all. 11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean. 12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? 13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. 16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. 17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. 18 I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eats bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me. 19 Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he. 20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receives whomsoever I send receives me; and he that receives me receives him that sent me."

                      Mark 5

4And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him. 25And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
26And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,
27When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
28For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
29And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
30And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?
31And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
32And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.
33But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
34And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
35While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?

Question: Did God marry Mary in the Baptist church? Wasn't Mary married to Joseph? My father also has 2 other sons, my half brothers. Much like Jesus has brothers and sisters. Is he a part of an illegitimate family?

                          Mark 6:1-6 (King James Version)

                          Mark 6

1And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.
2And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?
3Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.
4But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.

5And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.
6And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

Be wary of false Kumbaya Christians who use a highlighter and scissors to read the Bible. God wants us to read the lines, not between the lines. False Christians will go to Hell:

Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
