    The Christian Engineering Student

    Hello,

My name is Heather and I am new to your forum. I was raised in my pentecostal church in Oklahoma. I love it very much and my belief in Jesus Christ as my personal saviour and the one true God. I'm currently a senior in Mechanical Engineering to graduate in December. So I suppose I am technical minded in all things, but I believe that this just affirms my faith instead of hindering it as some seem to allow. I am fact based, so if you could cite any quotes it is greatly appreciated. It's not that I don't trust you, it's just that I like to have documentation for further research.

I've been searching around the forum and I do have questions on certain topics, but that is for another time. First, I simply wanted to properly introduce myself before commenting on other subjects. Non-bias/reasonable comments and thoughts are always welcome. Thank you very much and have a great day!

Hello young man and welcome to God's Favorite Forum(tm). Can you tell us what your favorite verse of Scripture is? I admit I'm rather confused by what you said here...

So I suppose I am technical minded in all things, but I believe that this just affirms my faith instead of hindering it as some seem to allow. I am fact based, so if you could cite any quotes it is greatly appreciated. It's not that I don't trust you, it's just that I like to have documentation for further research.
You need quotes on what? Documentation for what? Are you asking about specific verses in the Bible relating to engineering?

Also, why did your parents name you Heather? Isn't that a girl's name?

Well, I am female. Sorry I guess I didn't mention that.

No, I'm not asking for scriptures on engineering. I was just mentioning my tendency to quote my sources and like to see it from others as well (In general that is). This way I can look up the information at a later date and study it. If you quote the Word, please give a verse, not simply "in the Old Testement" or in a specific book. Or if someone is to quote a certain pastor a cite to that affect would be wonderful. I would really appreciate it!

Oh and favorite scripture. It is overused, but it is Jeremiah 29:11.

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end."

This verse is my favorite because I can always find comfort in it. In a world were things can often be uncertain, I can trust that God has a plan for me and will not lead me astray. That I am not insignificant in His eyes to the point that He would think of me and plan my future. That He cares that much for me. No matter how bad things can get, I can simply rely on Him.

Enough about me though, any volunteers to share their favorite verses?

Hello and welcome. My favorite verse these days is.

          2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Christians are superior because we possess an understanding that unbelievers lack. It is through the Power of Jesus only the converted mind is able to understand what is going on in the world; what the Communists are really up to; what Satan's intentions are. Most unbelievers do not even believe in Satan and cannot understand his tactics.

            Re: The Christian Engineering Student

Wait...a female engineering student? I realize that young women these days are tempted by the liberal agenda, feminists, Hollywood, and gays to "follow their dreams" and other destructive nonsense, but you must be strong enough to resist that. You do not belong in college learning about levers and machines. You need to be at home, raising your children and providing a nice warm house for your husband. What does he think about your radical career choice?

But, to answer your question, we are very technical and accurate about quoting Scripture. We, as True Christians(tm) know the Bible front and back, and can provide to you the exact source. For example, here are some Biblical verses which you should reflect upon.

1st Corinthians 14:34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
1st Corinthians 14:35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

1st Timothy 2:11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
            1st Timothy 2:12
But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

The Bible makes it clear that women should be subjected under men and in no position of authority. If you were to become an engineer, you would be essentially in that position. People would build things according to your directions.

Also, an engineering career may keep you from motherhood. The Bible tells us motherhood is the only thing a woman is good for. The Timothy verses continue...
1st Timothy 2:13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
1st Timothy 2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
1st Timothy 2:15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing,
if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

The reason for this of course was that in the time this was written, men and women had segregated seating in the church. Thus the woman would be interupting the service if she were to stand, find her husband, and then ask him the question. It would be quite difficult to keep everything in order...

Hmmmm...as for engineering getting in the way of motherhood? Doubtful... However you may have a point with the authority in the workplace. But if a man will not step up and take control over the project or is not skilled enough, should the task go undone? In that case we would be without things such as: the hypodermic needle, the hot water heater, ceramic tiles to protect space capsules on re-entry, the circular saw, kevlar, etc.
A more extensive list can be found at: http://library.thinkquest.org/CR0210...s/timeline.htm
Of course this is only a partial list.

You are misunderstanding the broader meaning. Church, like a university, is a place to learn. Women are meant to be silent and if they want to know something, then ask their husbands. Women are clearly shown by God to have a passive, background role. If you want to learn about engineering so badly, have your husband take some courses and ask him when he gets home.

I read that list and all I saw was a list of uppity women who are burning in Hell.

Young lady, maybe you could use some more personal guidance from me that I can't convey to you through the medium of an internet forum?

Rev. Osborne, I think she means 'Domestic Engineering'. Sort of like the nigra who hands you to towel in the men's room now being referred to as a 'Sanitation Manager'. Politically correct BS, if you ask me.

Welcome Heather! Glad you took the time to chat during your cupcake baking.
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

You were raised Pentecostal yet you go to university? Here I thought Pentecostals were one of the possible outside groups that could get into heaven.
