While Tertius may be a gentile/Roman name, are you not just making the assumption that he is not of Jewish stock? Can provide a quote from your special book to clarify this point.
The Romans were not adverse to marrying the people from the lands they occupied, so even if his father had been a Roman there is nothing to preclude the possibility that his Mother was of Hebrew origin thus making Tertius Jewish in the eyes of the Hebrews.
