  • What do you think of this bible passage?

"If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor. But if they refuse to make peace and prepare to fight, you must attack the town. When the LORD your God hands it over to you, kill every man in the town. But you may keep for yourselves all the women, children, livestock, and other plunder. You may enjoy the spoils of your enemies that the LORD your God has given you" Deuteronomy 20:11-14 Do you believe the bible is a moral book?

Re: What do you think of this bible passage?

By definition, the Bible is not just a moral book, it is THE moral book.

God said it, the Bible records it, and I believe it with all my heart.

And obviously, that town had transgressed grievously against God to have earned His Righteous Wrath.

Something you will no doubt also experience . . .
Jud 1:15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are unGodly among them of all their unGodly deeds which they have unGodly committed, and of all their hard [speeches] which unGodly sinners have spoken against him.

Re: What do you think of this bible passage?

I think I don't much care for the translation you used.

It sounds so much better in the King James.

11 And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, that all the people that is found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee. 12 And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it: 13 And when the Lord thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, ithou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword: 14 But the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof, shalt thoutake unto thyself; and thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which the Lord thy God hath given thee.

It's a very inspirational verse for how God wants an orderly conquest of the heart and soul as well.

If you would just open your heart to God, he will allow you to give Him tribute. If you don't, God is going to seriously mess you up!!

Deuteronomy 28:15 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:

16Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field.
17Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store.
18Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy land, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
19Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed shalt thou be when thou goest out.
20The LORD shall send upon thee cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me.
21The LORD shall make the pestilence cleave unto thee, until he have consumed thee from off the land, whither thou goest to possess it.
22The LORD shall smite thee with a consumption, and with a fever, and with an inflammation, and with an extreme burning, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish.
23And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is under thee shall be iron.
24The LORD shall make the rain of thy land powder and dust: from heaven shall it come down upon thee, until thou be destroyed.
25The LORD shall cause thee to be smitten before thine enemies: thou shalt go out one way against them, and flee seven ways before them: and shalt be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.
26And thy carcase shall be meat unto all fowls of the air, and unto the beasts of the earth, and no man shall fray them away.
27The LORD will smite thee with the botch of Egypt, and with the emerods, and with the scab, and with the itch, whereof thou canst not be healed.
28The LORD shall smite thee with madness, and blindness, and astonishment of heart:
29And thou shalt grope at noonday, as the blind gropeth in darkness, and thou shalt not prosper in thy ways: and thou shalt be only oppressed and spoiled evermore, and no man shall save thee.
30Thou shalt betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her: thou shalt build an house, and thou shalt not dwell therein: thou shalt plant a vineyard, and shalt not gather the grapes thereof.
31Thine ox shall be slain before thine eyes, and thou shalt not eat thereof: thine ass shall be violently taken away from before thy face, and shall not be restored to thee: thy sheep shall be given unto thine enemies, and thou shalt have none to rescue them.
32Thy sons and thy daughters shall be given unto another people, and thine eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day long; and there shall be no might in thine hand.
33The fruit of thy land, and all thy labours, shall a nation which thou knowest not eat up; and thou shalt be only oppressed and crushed alway:
34So that thou shalt be mad for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.
35The LORD shall smite thee in the knees, and in the legs, with a sore botch that cannot be healed, from the sole of thy foot unto the top of thy head.
36The LORD shall bring thee, and thy king which thou shalt set over thee, unto a nation which neither thou nor thy fathers have known; and there shalt thou serve other gods, wood and stone.
37And thou shalt become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among all nations whither the LORD shall lead thee.
38Thou shalt carry much seed out into the field, and shalt gather but little in; for the locust shall consume it.
39Thou shalt plant vineyards, and dress them, but shalt neither drink of the wine, nor gather the grapes; for the worms shall eat them.
40Thou shalt have olive trees throughout all thy coasts, but thou shalt not anoint thyself with the oil; for thine olive shall cast his fruit.
41Thou shalt beget sons and daughters, but thou shalt not enjoy them; for they shall go into captivity.
42All thy trees and fruit of thy land shall the locust consume.
43The stranger that is within thee shall get up above thee very high; and thou shalt come down very low.
44He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him: he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail.
45Moreover all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee:

Amen! Sodom and Gomorrah was my first thought about those that have grievously transgressed against God. And we know what happened there!

I think the same thing that I think of every other Bible passage: The Word of God is the Word of God, and it says what it says.
This church is dedicated to preaching True Christianity™ and the King James Bible exactly as they are, with no alterations to make them more politically correct for modern liberals. If you think that we've misquoted or twisted Scripture or quoted any verse out of context, please explain in detail how we've done so. But that's a non-answer. The bible also says thou shalt not kill. And it isn't the word of God, it's the word INSPIRED by God. The bible wasn't written by God.

Adultery is only if they are not married or a concubine. Those godly conquerors would naturally have to take those women as property to be fed and cared for. In other words, the men would have to make honest women out of them.

Thou shalt not kill only refers to murder. It isn't murder if God requires it.

How do you know that God told them to do these things as opposed to them just claiming that in order to justify their military campaign? "Thou shalt not kill only refers to murder. It isn't murder if God requires it." But is it moral? Are you claiming that even though murder is wrong and immoral, if God tells you to do it and you obey, then it's moral?

Because it's in the Bible. Plus, it was prophesied that God's chosen would conquer them.

How much more proof do you need? God said it would happen and it did.

                    Yes.

So because it is in a book that means it's true? How does that make any sense?? And there were plenty of prophesies in the bible that were not fulfilled. Why are you only talking about the ones that might have been fulfilled? And God didn't say anything. The bible is written by men who claim to be inspired by God. "Who are you to question God's morality? Did you create the heavens and the earth?" Who are you to claim what God's morality is? DO you know God personally? Does he talk to you?

God doesn't speak to people? Then, why does 88% of the world's population believe in some deity?

Of course God talks to people directly. Why in the Bible alone God directly speaks to all of these people:
