Re: What do you think of this bible passage?

No, that's god talking to INDIVIDUALS. Anyone can claim that God talked to them personally, but when has God ever talked to an entire group of people at the same time? It is easy for someone to claim that they talk to God and it's very hard to prove either way. That is something that happened between that person and God. So you either believe the person or you don't. There is zero evidence that God actually did talk to any of those people on that list.

God sent a sign to everyone 1 Kings 18, when Elijah called fire from the sky.

God opened the earth up to swallow people and their houses in sight of other people in Numbers 16.

God speaks to the crowd upon Jesus' baptism in Mark 1:10-11.

How much more proof do you need?

Yes. In Exodus 20, God speaks to the entire nation of Israel - around two million people.

That doesn't support your claim that god speaks to people.

How is that proof? Do you know what proof means? Because something is written in a book doesn't mean it's true. And what about all the contradictions? Can you see God or not? "And the Lord spake to Moses face to face, as a man speaketh to his friend." "No man hath seen God at any time." (JOH 1:18) So which is right? Can man see god or not??

Jeremy, allow me to provide you a little logical walk-through.
                • The Bible is the Word of God.
                • God is the all-knowing, all-powerful creator of the universe.
                • Therefore, He knows exactly what the Bible says about Him.
                • It says what it says, therefore, it must say what He wants it to say.

                Surely that follows logically, correct?

Therefore it is not outdated, for example, or "meant to be taken metaphorically".

Now, you say that you do not think the Bible is correct. That means one of these conditions must be true:
                • God doesn't care or enjoys the fact that we are being misled and will go to His Hell. In this circumstance, He must be evil.
                • God doesn't know or is unable to change what is in the Bible. In this case, He isn't much of a god.
                • God doesn't exist.

We already know that you're an atheist. However, there are many millions of so-called Christians who run about saying that they only have to follow PARTS of the Bible. You know, the parts they like.

We True Christians(tm) follow ALL of the Bible, whether we think it's nice or not. It's God's Word.

Does that mean we necessarily think, with our limited human "morality", that enslaving conquered people is a nice thing to do? No. But we are not the arbiters of right and wrong; God is.

Let me give you a few examples:
                • If He decides that genocide is appropriate (as in the instance you mentioned earlier, or as in Numbers 32), then that is what is right.
                • If He decides that the best option is to put a handful of people and animals onto a boat and drown all other living creatures -- even bunnies and cute little puppies -- then that is what is right.
                • If He decides that Lot (you remember, from Sodom and Gomorrah?) is a righteous man, even when Lot offers his two virgin daughters to an angry mob for them to rape, then Lot is a righteous man.
Does this help you understand how a True Christian(tm) views the Bible?
                Bible boring? Nonsense!
Try Bible in a Year with Brother V, or join Shirlee and the kids as they discuss Real Bible Stories!
You can't be a Christian if you don't know God's Word!

But Moses didn't see God's face. Nobody can. The closest you can get without dying is seeing his back parts. Amen!

20And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.
21And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:
22And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:
23And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.

Not it doesn't because you are starting with assumptions. You first have to establish that a god even exists in the first place and then from there prove that he communicated to man, and that the bible is this communication. None of those have been established. "We True Christians™ follow ALL of the Bible, whether we think it's nice or not. It's God's Word." But that's your assumption. You've been TOLD that it's God's word by your parents, your relatives, friends, etc. Does is it really God's word? That has never been established. Everything else you claim fails because your assumptions have never been established to begin with. And it's not possible to do everything the bible says because parts of the bible are contradictary.

Your first quote saws Moses spoke to God face to face. Does it say Moses SAW God's face? No. Just a few lines later, in fact, it clearly says Moses did not see God's face.

Did Jacob see God's face? No. If you read the story, you find that God had temporarily assumed a human form.

1 Corinthians 14: 33For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
