You know. I know that the Bible says to never kill. That is why people like us must work together to eliminate the death penalty. We must give these people a chance to repent and become Christians after their crimes, so that they may have a second chance at life. It's true that the condemned should be allowed to repent of their sins just like Jesus wanted.
Wow, you seem to be the first 'normal' person I've met on this forum. Yesterday this was all an incredible shock - I couldn't believe this was for real and that people actually think treating others such is displayed on this forum is okay with God or even for God. Applying old testament punishments to people who only need to ask God for forgiveness to be cleansed of the sin . . . it's crazy, especially in such instances as torture which a pastor did to his wife . . .

But I now know this place is Jesus' favorite church, so am not so in shock, just concerned for other people who come here searching fro answers about God and get . . . this.

No, where in that quote did I say anything of the sort? I am stating that you are taking a translation of original text word-for-word, as you say, and I want to know what you think of the originals. Are they discredited because they are not your KJ Bible, even though are the original texts? You didn't address any of my questions, I don't even understand the relevance of your response because nowhere do I mention anything to do with doubting God's power.

As it happens, I study Classical History at College and have had a short session in Ancient Greek and am due to start a ten-week course in Latin after Christmas. But I do not know much of the language, and don't pretend I do. However, that there is more than one word in Greek for 'Love' is not exclusive knowledge, you know? It's very common knowledge; I knew of them before I started college, so what's your point? I do not need to have degree in Ancient Greek to know that the English language is far limited than Greek.

Philia (φιλία philía) - friendship love
Agapē (ἀγάπη agápē) - true love - families/spouse, etc, also used for 'love of God' in the NT.
Eros (ἔρως érōs) - passionate/intimate love
Storge (στοργή storgē) - affection/natural love or acceptance

But of course, Greek words do not transliterate completely into English, so these all have other additional meanings, as well.

Disclaimer: I have never said I know any more about this language than any of you. This information is not exclusive, that is all.

I think that means that came wearing sheep's clothing in order to preach instead of learn in a silly attempt to corrupt True Christians™. They don't realize that such a thing would be impossible. If someone can be swayed then they were not a True Christian™ to begin with.

Or maybe Devon read my post wherein I quoted verses suggesting snow should be left where it is. Some of our visitors are so fickle and skiddish from the start.

OK, we now have two of us praying for our dearly departed Devon. I say dearly departed because our bible tells us:
Romans 6:23 -- For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Now we need at least one more because three is better than two.
Matthew 18:19-20 -- Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
    Jesus said so.

    Hi and welcome Devon.

I am quite concerned about you and your immortal soul. My True Christian(tm) brothers and sisters have already showed you a lot a of Scripture that is in direct violation with your ideas about the Teachings of Jesus.

Since you think that God loves everybody I recommend that you read this ol' thread of mine about how God doesn't love everyone and how this notion gives rise to the Problem of Evil.

I hope you will see the light so that you can join us in Heaven

Words like 'Love' have several different meanings, certainly in the Greek,
Please do tell us about your expertise in ancient Greek. Be careful. Be very, very careful. Some of us here are students of the Bible.

    I'm not sure about Hebrew,
Some on this forum are sure. Yet you present yourself as superior to the True Christians(tm) here at Landover Baptist Church?

and the English limits the meaning to one when it could be one of many 'types' of love. So how does that even work? I have Romanian friends who are Christian, they go to my church, but they read the Bible in their own language - are they not Christians just because the words, etc. might be altered due to translation?

What about people who cannot read? Or people who have severe learning difficulties or conditions? Can they not be saved? God is ALIVE. He is a living God, and the Word of God is not only the written word, but Jesus. He can speak into hearts and souls, he can reach those who are unreachable. Love is the starting point.

Devon, you need to actually read the KJV Bible. You cannot merely discuss it with little children. You know that every kid swears there are monsters under their bed and there actually rarely are. The same goes with the Word of God©. You need to sit down and instead of writing, do a little reading. See what God actually has to say to you instead listening to peoples interpretations. God is very specific in His messages.
Well, there actually are monsters under my bed. Oh, wait a moment. That is only my toy robot collection. Never mind.

Proves just how much your assumptions of me are wrong then. I don't throw anything in anyone's faces. The website isn't Christian by name but it has many Christian members and a forum for Christian writing. Much of my writing is about God. What kind of evidence do you want? >.>
Considering that 85% of the US population identifies itself as Christian, 93% of Brazil, 98% of Mexico, and heathen Europe a mere 72%, the chances are very good that your forum would have "many Christian members" whether it was devoted to Christianity, turtles and snails or needlepoint.

I even have a forum on a website. And I can say with certainty that 100% of the members are True Christians(tm). [Of course it is not open to the public and I am the only one who ever posted on it, but see how easily statistics can be thrown up into the air?]

@ Levi Jones - No, I haven't, but I think I've heard of him - isn't Benny Hinn the false prophet for TV? If so, I don't watch TV, but my pastor mentioned him a couple years ago. Also, the Spirit guides and comforts me, I don't act like a pentecostal idiot.

There should be a lesson or something in there for you. Perhaps God removed the Edit button from your sight because you came rampaging into God's most loved forum like a bull in a china shop. Do you think?

    Think about this:

Now would you like to start all over again and present yourself with a modicum of respectfulness?

@ Old Man - I'm aware of that, but what some of the members here do is not of God, and Jesus spoke in parables. How are you to know he meant we were to physically cut off someone's hand (I know someone on this forum wanted to castrate their son!) when the stories of farmers and seeds were metaphors for how were are to live our lives and respond to God, and how God loves us? This is the problem with literal thinking, ancient writers often used metaphor, etc.
Here are a few hints for you:
    And Jesus answering said
    But he answered
From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say
And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying
And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine
And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying

    Now compare them to these:
And he spake many things unto them in parables
Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower
Another parable put he forth unto them, saying
All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables
and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field. He answered and said unto them

See the difference? Why are you having such a difficult time distinguishing a directive from a parable?

Have you actually opened up a bible?

Maybe you are using a heathen bible that does not delineate the difference for you very clearly. You might want to try a get a hold of the real God-breathed words, the 1611 King James Bible.

@ Rodimer - I will not have a scripture war with you, sorry. It is late, and I am upset enough as it is, without being flamed further for my views on scripture, which, no doubt, will differ to yours. It is pointless, and exhaustive.

@ Levi - 'show don't tell' - I read a great many thread tonight with scriptures used incorrectly to back a point left-right-and-centre. I see no point in referencing if your forum is full of it, just look yourself in the spirit and you will see. I have more to do with my time than argue with people who are blind.

Those verses you quoted only serve in patronising me. I know them, I know the Bible well. I know what Jesus said, I know the Word. Jesus didn't abolish the law, his example and teaching shows us how they changed, and because of his sacrifice.
Whoa! Hold the horses! Just a few sentences about and you indicated you could not tell the difference between a parable and an admonition or directive. Now you claim to "know the Bible well." Which is it? Are you always this wishy-washy, flippy-floppy?

'Is God's Word imprinted on every mind?' YES. It is in the love of the Spirit, which knocks on all hearts. If you listen and open your eyes, you will see and hear, but until you accept Jesus into your life, you are blind and deaf. (I'm not going to go find the quote, btw)

You insult a man who you don't even have an inkling about, he could have been anyone at all, he could have been a Christian just like you, you don't know. For all you know he could have died when I was a baby or a child, or even last year . . . are you even aware of how hurtful your words could be? Please don't cry again. I know the LORD is breaking your heart because you are finding out that we are right about the Bible. You know you don't study it as much as you should. If you had, you would be able to answer some of those tough questions and biblical citations we provided.

Don't worry. You aren't the first to get smacked around with the Bible and you won't be the last.

Go and train, grasshopper. Bible cover to cover. I'll start you off with a chapter to read. It's all about God's rewards for His faithful and His punishments for those who won't listen.

    Deuteronomy 28
    .

I would tell you to go with God, but that would make me a sinner and culpable in your heresy.

2 John 1:10-11 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

Amen a scripture! Now take it in context. Jesus is addressing His disciples during the last supper.

John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
