Re: Hello From An Unrepentant Unitarian

For someone who claims to be devoted to openness and respect for all religions, you sure seem to go out of your way to criticize and denegrate ours.

Take that Unitarian logo you use as an avatar, for example. It is clearly a bastardization of the cross. You claim to be a Christian, yet you willingly follow a banner that minimizes the suffering of Jesus and the cleansing effect of His holy blood? Not to mention that the whole candlestick and circle thing is pretty obviously a sexualization of Christian symbology (I won't even ask what having two holes right next to each other stand for--I think it's more than just Unitarians and Universalists, though).

I'm not really here to convert you. I'm happy to discuss the Word, but if you don't accept Jesus as your savior, exactly as described in the Bible, well, it's your afterlife, not mine, and you're entitled to your beliefs, however goofy and mushy they might be, as long as you don't try to impose them on me and the rest of America. But I think you ought at least to show a little reverence for our religious tradition. How would you feel if I went into a Unitarian forum and modified your symbol to look like this?

Because that's exactly what your modified cross symbol means to me.

Deep down, perhaps I have no more taste for cultural-religious satire than you do. Anyway, I'm glad to hear that your hatreds are so well organized. There's nothing quite so dispriting as not knowing whom you hate the most.

...since the Bible says that the Bible is true and also says that it's the word of God, then we *know* for a FACT that it's the true word of God because it says so right in the Bible!... Now, try twisting THAT
You've got me there, I don't see any way to twist that more than you have. But how can I reject any non-Biblical theology out of hand when 1 Corinthians 13 instructs us that without charity, we are nothing, and that charity:

Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things?

    You're avoiding the question entirely.
Also, the context makes all the difference in this case, and I've proved it.
What you're doing here is basically acting like a child here, putting your fingers in your ears and going "nyah nyah nyah I can't hear you."

This forum isn't here to serve as your amusement while your parents are too busy to play with you, pre-teen.

If you’re suggesting now that these two passages referred to two separate events, they why did you say the exact opposite in your original response?
I've said nothing of the sort:
Once again you're "creating" contradictions where there are none.

    Not likely.
    Allright then, Moderation it is.

    Look, StarsWarsDad:

The Bible in its entirety is the word of God. We *know* it's the word of God because it SAYS it's the word God. And since the Bible says that the Bible is true and also says that it's the word of God, then we *know* for a FACT that it's the true word of God because it says so right in the Bible!

Now, try twisting THAT with your Unitarian circular logic, hippie!

Well, OK then. You found the one good reason.

That's no reason to think you can come in here and try to convert TrulyTru to your perverse non-religion.

I mean, if you just want someplace to go on Sundays, why not open a coffeehouse? You could have chai lattes, and pastries, and Lezbian folk singers on acoustic guitars. Why confuse people spiritually and draw them away from God?

Well, you might not be subtle, but at least you are moderately funny. I have other ministries to attend to, so I'm not exactly quaking in my boots here over the "threat" of banishment. I've been banned from way classier outfits than yours, and undoubtedly will be again. But without me around, you're back to discussions on this level:

TC: You're going to go to Hell, both for your homerism and your inability to punctuate.

At least I talk about the Bible, which I thought was what you guys were all about.

As for Christ's salvation, don't you folks preach that he was already saved when he was born?

Funny, Landover people tend to stick to a list of about 30 verses of the Bible. I wonder where the rest of them went.

    Try reading the Bible.
I absolutely agree. But don't just read the hateful parts that Landover Pastors show you. Here are a few verses that Pastor Ezekiel left out. As much as he'd probably like to remove them from the Bible, he's stuck with them:

Exodus 23:11 (on feeding the poor and our relationship to the natural world)
But the seventh year thou shalt let it rest and lie still; that the poor of thy people may eat: and what they leave the beasts of the field shall eat. In like manner thou shalt deal with thy vineyard, and with thy oliveyard.

Psalm 82:3-6 (on social justice and what it means to be human)
Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked. They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course. I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.

Ecclesiastes 3:12 (on the purpose of life)
I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.

Isaiah 32:8-9 (on which political party to support)
The instruments also of the churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right. But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand.

Micah 6:8 (how to walk the path of righteousness)
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Matthew 19:16-19 (Jesus on God's commandments)
And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Luke 6:35-36 (Jesus on judging others)
Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven.

There are plenty more where those came from.

BarrKingMad, this is not a place for you to proselytize your anti-Christian drivel to the UnSaved, HEATHEN!

How DARE you try to steer this poor, confused young lady from accepting the golden Love of Jesus, into your Wiccan-Satanic-Hindu-BelieveAnythingNet melange of perversions!

Give me one good reason I shouldn't ban you right now!!

TrulyTru, don't listen to this freak. He hates Landover and Jesus. He claims to be Christian AND Unitarian . . . which is impossible, because God's Word says to have NO GODS BEFORE HIM. Yet this false prophet teaches that you can pray to ANYTHING YOU WANT, even a Proctor-Silex Four-Slice Toaster!

I'm sorry, this is no laughing matter. Your eternal salvation is at stake, after all!

Please, TrulyTru, read more than this thread. Read this Forum, and you will soon realize that we are only trying to do God's Will, and communicate what He says in His Book.

Learn about God's Plan, and His Word, and how you can have His True Love, not this "free to do anything without consequences because there is no God" line the Unitarian Unicyclist Atheist here would like to feed you!

You aren't "just" anything. You are a caring and thoughtful human being, which, I'm afraid, puts you way ahead of the game around here. Don't let anybody (not Landover, not me, not anyone) mess with your head, telling you that you are in any way not as qualified as anyone else to choose your own spiritual path.

I am one of His Creations and I don't think He likes it very much when you call ANY of His Creations trash...or have the audacity to believe that YOU can damn someone to eternal hell? (Like you do when you revoke their accounts here.)

I don't have a theology degree, but I know this above anything and everything else - GOD IS LOVE! Love is patient and kind, it is not rude and it keeps no account of wrongs...it rejoices in truth and always hopes!!!
Beautifully said. You don't need to be a theologian to feel the warmth of God's love.

If you came in here looking for a spiritual home, I encourage you to stop by your nearest Unitarian Universalist church (here's the search page). I think you'll find that our beliefs are a lot more compatible with yours than warmed over hatred you'll find at Landover. If we're too unstructured for you, the United Methodist Church preaches a message of love within a more traditional Christian framework.

Peace to all of you...thank you for the spiritual 'stirring' Grad.
    My pleasure.

God is so much more, and it doesn't take a Theologian to understand that. It takes a True Christian™.

    Try reading the Bible.

    Leviticus 20:23
And ye shall not walk in the manners of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they committed all these things, and therefore I abhorred them.

    Psalm 5:5
The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

    Psalm 11:5
The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.

    Proverbs 6:16, 19
These six things doth the LORD hate ... A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

    Hosea 9:15
I hated them: for the wickedness of their doings.

    Malachi 1:3
And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.

    Romans 9:13
As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

Wow. I have enjoyed this entire thread immensely and I may be waaaaay over my head here, but I can't not speak...I realize that I'm just a woman and you don't hold my opinions very high at Landover, but I am a child of God and Jesus died for my sins. You are discussing MY Lord and MY personal Savior, so I feel this qualifies my opinion.

I read the newbie warnings against speaking on tolerance and I think I understand the Landover perspective - you want to shock people into salvation or show them "tough love" maybe? I do agree that the Holy Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God and I do agree that we should revere all of His creations. That said, I am one of His Creations and I don't think He likes it very much when you call ANY of His Creations trash...or have the audacity to believe that YOU can damn someone to eternal hell? (Like you do when you revoke their accounts here.)

I believe in His direction to "Judge not lest you be" so I won't. I don't have a theology degree, but I know this above anything and everything else - GOD IS LOVE! Love is patient and kind, it is not rude and it keeps no account of wrongs...it rejoices in truth and always hopes!!!

Peace to all of you...thank you for the spiritual 'stirring' Grad.
