  • Greetings all

    Hello there all,

My name is Captain Mal. I am a member of the Urantia Society. We have a variety of beliefs that I will not go into full detail here, but some basic ones in regard to Christianity are:

Jesus did not die for sins, but was an accident on part of humanity
Jesus is a perfect diety after his seventh incarnation, and one of the many sons of God.
Jesus took on the "Son of Man" persona after reading the Book of Enoch.
Jesus then wandered the Roman empire until he appears again.

I am also basically a regular guy who enjoys reading, thinking, talking politics, writing, music, art, and culture. I joined the forum because I want to hear more on your opinion of Jesus.

    Re: Greetings all

Please explain, Urantian Pastafarian, why it is that not every, or even nearly every, scientific statement in the Book of Urantia is accurate.

Skeptics like Martin Gardner see the science in The Urantia Book as clear reflections of the views that prevailed at the time the book is said to have originated. The claim by the authors that no unknown scientific discoveries could be imparted is seen as a ruse to allow mistakes to be dismissed later. That presentation of post-1955 scientific knowledge is avoided is taken to be evidence it was written by humans and not by celestial beings with superior knowledge.
Examples of criticisms regarding the science in The Urantia Book include:[8]
    • The described formation of the solar system is consistent with the Chamberlin-Moulton planetesimal hypothesis.[39] Though popular in the early part of the 20th century, by the early 1940s it was discarded by Henry Russell's argument that it was incompatible with the angular momentum of planets such as Jupiter.[40] The currently accepted scientific explanation for the origin of the solar system is based on the nebular hypothesis.
    • According to the book's descriptions, the universe is hundreds billion years old and periodically expands and contracts — "respires" — at 2-billion-year intervals. Current observations, however, suggest that the true age of the universe is approximately 13.7 billion years.
    • A fundamental particle called an "ultimaton" is proposed, with an electron being composed of 100 ultimatons. The particle is not known to be described anywhere else and the concept is not supported by modern particle physics.
    • Some species are said to have evolved suddenly from single mutations without transitional species. The theory originated with Dutch botanist Hugo De Vries, but was short-lived and is not now supported.
    • The book repeats the scientific understanding at the time of its publication that one side of the planet Mercury always is turned to the sun due to tidal locking.
"The planets nearest the sun were the first to have their revolutions slowed down by tidal friction. Such gravitational influences also contribute to the stabilization of planetary orbits while acting as a brake on the rate of planetary-axial revolution, causing a planet to revolve ever slower until axial revolution ceases, leaving one hemisphere of the planet always turned toward the sun or larger body, as is illustrated by the planet Mercury and by the moon, which always turns the same face toward Urantia."
In 1965, radio astronomers discovered that Mercury actually rotates fast enough for all sides to see exposure to the sun.
    • The book says that a solar eclipse was predicted in 1808 by the Native American prophet Tenskwatawa. The eclipse was actually predicted in late April 1806 and occurred on June 16, 1806.
    • Controversial statements about human races can be found in the book. Supporters state that criticism has arisen mainly due to reading passages out of context. Gardner believes that William S. Sadler, who wrote some eugenicist works, had a hand in editing or writing the book, and that this is how the ideas were included.
    Bible boring? Nonsense!

Son, I think you need to put down the weed pipe, get on your knees, and pray to the LORD for forgiveness before He sends you straight to the very fiery pits of Hell.

Hello, my name is Mary. I hope to fellowship with you! That is, unless you don't listen to church authority (Deuteronomy 17:12); are a witch (Exodus 22:17); are a homosexual (Leviticus 20:13; Romans 1:24-32); or fortuneteller (Leviticus 20:27) or a snotty kid who hits their dad (Exodus 21:15); or curses their parents (Proverbs 20:20; Leviticus 20:9); an adulterer (Leviticus 20:10); a non-Christian (Exodus 22:19; Deuteronomy 13:7-12; Deuteronomy 17:2-5;Romans 1:24-32); an atheist (2 Chronicles 15:12-13); or false prophet (Zechariah 13:3); from the town of one who worships another, false god (Deuteronomy 13:13-19); were a non-virgin bride (Deuteronomy 22:20-21); or blasphemer (Leviticus 24:10-16), as God calls for your execution and will no doubt send you to Hell, and I have no interest developing a friendship with the Spiritually Walking Dead.

I do not smoke weed. Although I am sure it is perfectly acceptable for any True Christian to smoke if they choose to.

While we are more concerned with scientific matters, I believe that being a member is more about the spiritual rather than the temporal. Also we teach more about Jesus during the Silent years than most christian groups. We do not actually teach a concept of Hell, perhaps you ought to convert? It may mean a bit less hellfire?

I am by no means a pervert. I do enjoy hiking though. Nothing like walking through nature and enjoying all of the glorious splendor that God has given us, wouldn't you agree?

One of the reasons why I am here because I want to learn more about your take on Jesus. He does place a central role in The Urantia Book, and we do like to study and learn as much as we can.

Well our so called "Urine Book" is about twice as long as the King James Bible. Perhaps that makes it more fulfilling to those who read it? Who is to say?

                    Yea, so is Harry Potter.

Length isn't everything. All True Christian(tm) men know that.

No, but I hear it is great for zapping bugs and producing light. Based on your avatar, I am surprised you even have electricity. I am curious though where in the KJV does it speak that it is right for man to have electricity?

Oh, I see. You're one of those people who come here and call us judgemental when every word out of your mouth is critical and made up lies before you even get to know us. Hypocrite; get back to hell.

How was I critical? I was merely expressing my thoughts that I was surprised. Your avatar does not really portray "electricity user" to me, you seem more like you would live off the land as a true man would, but if you wish to argue that you are not 100% man by all means go ahead. Perhaps that is just me? Who am I to argue with a True Christian™?
