Hello Landover Baptist,
I do not attend any church, I have no favorite biblical verse(s) and I have never "found Jesus". Late introduction complete.
Apparently, my thread starting privileges have been limited to this forum for whatever reason. I have been nothing but a gentlemen in every post I have made so I truly do not understand the rationale behind this infraction. I would have liked to have posted this in the political forum, but this will have to do.
I was conversing with an acquaintance about the results of the recent presidential election. The Republican party believed that the election was theirs to win regardless of Mitt Romney's evasiveness concerning his plans, constant flip flop pandering and overall awkward demeanor. And despite Barack HUSSEIN Obama's weak leadership and failed policies (due to his weak character in the face of republican antagonism) he was reelected. One could say President Obama was simply the lesser of two evils. I would agree. But not necessarily because of the fiscal direction of the Republicans, but their staunch theological stances. I believe it was their stance on social issues that ultimately cost them the election as they lost the moderate vote. The bid to transform the United States into some theocracy akin to Iran blew up in their faces.
I would like to discuss one such topic: Gay marriage.
So my question to ultra conservatives is, "What is the point of opposing gay rights?" What do you accomplish or gain by denying two consenting adults, who happen to be of the same gender, the right to be recognized as spouses under the law? How does gay marriage threaten the institution of heterosexual marriage? You would think Christians would be lobbying to criminalize divorce which, in my humble opinion, is the greatest threat to the institution of marriage.
I also have another related question for Christians in particular. Do you have a problem with homosexuality as a psychological condition or is your issue with homosexual actions?
