Hello everybody.
I'm Agnostic - I believe that the universe exists in ways the human mind cannot understand, as the Cosmic Microwave Background and Relative Center of the Universe shows. (The center always being point zero relative to the observe AKA YOU are ALWAYS the exact center of the universe, all cosmic bodies will always appear to be moving away from you, no matter where you are - a problematic observation, what if two people were stationary on each side of a galaxy, what would observe between them? Each would see it moving away from them and into the other, so which direction is it really moving?) My point being that the way we observe, interact with and in general exist in the universe is imperfect, incomplete and outright incorrect. There's obviously more to it than our biological senses and technology can detect.
Anyway this is why I'm Agnostic: I see no evidence for God, no reason for him to exist. But I see no evidence against him either; we simply don't know enough about anything yet. And I fully admit that he could exist, there's certainly enough gaps in our knowledge to allow for it. So, as of yet I am undecided.
I'm writing a paper on various religious beliefs and denominations, so I hope you don't mind If I ask you a few questions. Please know I mean no intentional offense to anyone. Anyway here goes:
Have you ever considered exactly where it is the Bible comes from? It wasn't originally written in English; how can you be certain you trust the translation? Translation is no easy task, and mistake are, and always will be made - human error is unavoidable. This is mostly due to the fact that languages do not "match up," a word in English might not exist in another language, for example there is no word for "octopus" in Swedish, they use "bläckfisk" which means squid. My point being that there is no such thing as perfect translation - when something is translated directly, world for word it comes out a garbled non-sense, so it is the meaning that must be translated, not the words - this is especially when dealing with things like metaphors, which are used a lot in the Bible.
Can anyone here be certain that what they read is actually the bible?
It has been translated over and over and over and over to get to it's present form, is it not basically 100% certain that SOME parts of it are simply wrong when compaired to it's original scripture?
I've also noticed that this forum can be quite judgmental to people of other beliefs, do you not believe that the bible condemns such behavior? Does
Romans 14:1-1
Not say something to the effect of: "As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind."
Sorry about that being bold; it appears to be stuck that way for some reason. Anyway another quote to support this, and also the topic of "Men owning Women" is
Galatians 3: 28:
There is neither jew nor greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
As for the topic of male dominence, the origional Biblical scripts, the ones in which from your bible is translated (the Pseudopigrypha, the Apocrypha and the Gnostic texts, if you do not believe me you may research them yourself) DO NOT support this: In-fact it is condemned as a sin. Now I would like to make it very clear that I DO NOT wish to offend anyone; but there has been very clear evidence of tampering of the translation of these documents by the male-dominated church, by which I mean the some people at the very head of the church, to suit their own selfish, and ultimately evil, wants (because of course, not everybody in a church is christian, some are there simply to exploit it, as with any institution, these men are not Christians, but people who exploit Christianity for their own gain.) Which brings me back to my "how do you know what you're reading actually is the Bible" point, especially since what you're reading had quite clearly been "Altered" by somebody from the original transcripts, to meet their own ends.
Anyway thank you for your time.
