I've read so many untrue posts about agnostics and atheists that I wanted to clear some things up.
Agnostics and atheists are not mentally ill, sadistic, satanist and depressed beings. They're normal people.
I saw this one post where it said "do atheists really not believe in God?". Of course they don't!
Atheists don't believe in God not because they're "blood-drinking sex-drugs-rock-and-roll" people who don't want to be controlled by a creator, but it's because they literally DO NOT THINK HE EVEN EXISTS AT ALL. Literally. They compare the evidence of science and the explaining of phenomenon or an event compared to the words of people saying that it's "magic" or "miracles". They simply dismiss your ideas as fairy-tales. So to incorrectly criticize a nonreligion is absolutely ignorant and bigoted.
Agnostics can be almost exactly like an atheist, or the complete opposite. Some think that it's possible that they may physically find God, but because they haven't, they don't have a say. Others dismiss all claims about whether God exists or not because they don't see a way to prove either one, so they will stay in a stance to not be committed to anything. And they're not afraid to do that, because they're strong in their hearts for what they believe in.
How do I know all this? I am an agnostic. I have atheist friends. I have Christian friends, Muslim friends, Jewish friends, Hindi friends, I even had a Mormon friend that I met online. I don't care what people spiritually believe in because it's not my life, but what I do care is correcting false opinions passing as true facts. We are not evil. Some atheists and possibly some agnostics in history were, but like any other religion, there's always a good amount of stupid people, because stupid people exist EVERYWHERE.
"Atheists and agnostics are miserable". Well there probably is a little bit of truth to that, I can admit. We blame our actions on ourselves and the environment we are in, not God. When we screw up on something, the only thing that can forgive us, that we can fall back on and believe in is ourselves, and if you don't believe in yourself, then you're right, you're going to be depressed and miserable. That's why I think some people may or may not have the capability to think like us because they really would feel miserable, while others like me have a positive attitude on life, and if you keep that up, you're fine.
And yes, we have morals and empathy. I know you people think that we don't, or we may not truly have the same morals, but we do. I would never steal or kill someone not because I don't want to get in trouble and get myself hurt, but it's literally sickening to my heart to do so. Since I don't believe in an afterlife, it's even worse for me to end the streaming consciousness of a living person with their own thoughts, memories and a loving family. They'd simply cease to exist in my beliefs. Stealing is wrong; why would I take something that would hurt the other person's feelings? It's distressing for not only them but for me to do that. The people that would steal or kill someone even if there were no laws would be a sociopath, and they exist in any form of religion or nonreligion, such as a muslim terrorist or a stalinist soldier.
As for the part of going to Hell:
Being an atheist means that this place doesn't exist, not because they're "spoiled brats", but because they believe that it isn't logical and scientifically factual that a place would exist for eternal torture simply because we haven't seen anything like that in our observed world. They see it manipulative to nonbelievers to be peer-pressured to join the religion out of fear, and if an atheist, or any nontheist were to believe in God, they would not believe that He would be this unforgiving to anyone because it doesn't seem reasonable.
To an agnostic, it depends. Some of us don't believe in either, just like an atheist, and some of us think that God would be reasonable and if the person honestly lived an innocent life, they wouldn't go to Hell even if it does exist.
So that's my spheel. If you delete this, you're being ignorant, foolish, and manipulative. I'm not being offensive or obscene. I'm stating facts for what atheists and agnostics think and believe in. You ask on forum posts what an atheist is like or why they're "this" and "that" (which are probably false accusations), so I'm answering them for you in the most unbiased way possible.
Thank you for reading this post that will hopefully change somewhat about the way you think about us, because I fight for facts, not beliefs. Have a lovely day.
