I passed a lot of holidays when i was young in Estoril and Sintra and i spoke portuguese to be kind but i never needed it.

Not true. The Reconquista (Recapture) ends at 1492 and the portuguese independence was at 1640. While the battles againsts muslims there was ONLY one country (in fact you can count Italy, at least a big portion)

Check your facts mate. Portugal was in fact called Condado Portucalense and became independent in 1143. We were in fact occupied by the spanish from 1580 to 1640. And Italy was the only country?? how about England, or the Netherlands or France.

Tell me friend, how do you tolerate "that smell'? I landed in Lisbon once to get a few thousand pounds of Jet A for my G550. I was going to stretch my legs on the tarmac, perhaps pop into town for a snack but the odor was so repulsive, I go back on board and went to Paris (with the fuel light on the entire time) and had french fries. They were terrible.

Quiet well actually, you know the smell of plane fuel is not very nice to our noses. I can assure you that the rest of the city doesn't have that terrible smell. Its a great city to visit

It is renowned the world over as the capital of rancid flatulence. The odor I was talking is not at all like the sweet smell of success like Jet A is. The odor wafting through the streets of that cesspool is more akin the stench of 'The RamRod' in NYC at closing time on a Saturday night. Offensive is an understatement. No, Lisbon ranks as the most foul smelling city in the world. Perhaps it is all the women with what appears to be Tribbles in their armpits.

Don't agree but okay its your opinion. I'm living in Lisbon for the past 7 and a half years and never had any problems. We have nice gardens and parks. Yes there are also some problems to resolve. Those girls you talk about seem to be gipsys. They do have a very intense body odor. And they actually are living on welfare. In my opinion our government should make them either work or leave our country

This is just to let you in a little secret, Tenerife is in Spain, not Portugal. By the way where exactly did you stay the last time you said you came to Portugal?

I don't know about anybody else, but I spent a while bartering the Portugese whores for the cost of an hour.

Finally got one, she spent the whole night, very good price and she made me a breakfast of fresh olives, bread and olive oil. Then she gave me another round of hubba-hubba for free. It was awesome.

Very true, but it still does not explain the stink.

The only thing in my life that ever smelled almost so bad was when Mrs. Hutchins mother came to visit. She stayed in her room most of the time. One day, the smell was so bad, I sent Mrs. Hutchins up there to wash everything in lye soap and not come down until she was done. Four or five hours later, she knocked on my office door to let me know she was done and would start on dinner. During dinner I asked what was the cause the the stench. Apparently her mother had died sometime earlier and the rotting corpse was attracting maggots. I admonished her for not keeping a tidier house. It was also the last time I allowed her mother to come visiting. Some people have no respect for other peoples property.

Gypsies are actually people from a different ethnics than us. They are not very clean. Fortunatly I have a great wife, and gypsies are a minority in my country. So if they were to leave our country we would still have great women
