    Thank you for the suggestions!

    Michel should be back tomorrow. I'm thinking that I might start her off with some basic things, like toast and bread. My mother makes amazing sourdough bread, so I might show Michel how to make some after I show her how to make the starter for it.

    I know that I should be teaching her how to cook steak and other kinds of meat, but I want her to get the hang on making other things and not burning them first. I can only imagine what a disaster it would be to trust her with meat when she can't even make a decent loaf of bread.

    Some of the recipes do seem a bit complicated. Most of that "pasta" clip, after the bit about mix eggs & flour (1 cup flour + 1 egg per person) and roll out, seemed to be about gabbling and twiddling the stuff into arbitrary fiddly shapes which when all's said and done are still just eggs and flour rolled out.

    When I have house guests the following VERY SIMPLE recipe is always appreciated:

    1 leg lamb (or mutton if available)
    some vegetables (onion, carrot, potato, parsnip, turnip)
    (about equal weight of meat/vegetables)
    ▸ wash veg. and peel according to taste
    ▸ put everything NOT CUT UP into a stewpot with salt & pepper
    ▸ boil for several hours

    What could be simpler? The potatoes tend to fall apart a bit as a thickener and the meat comes away from the bone when done. Kept as a hot pot on hearth or hob with a ladle and fresh bread provides a substantial snack for guests at any time.



    Sometimes I add pearl barley, but that's not necessary, sometimes a few tomatoes (if in season) but that's not necessary either.

    Sprinkle with parsley.

    Happy ladling.

    Brother, I have it on good authority that pot roast braised in bacon, beer and a little wine vinegar (remember Jesus) is the closest thing you will get on this earth to the sweet smell of Heaven. If you prepare it on a Sunday morning and put it in a slow cooker before going to witness one of Pastor Zeke's inspiring sermons, by the time you get home God has made another miracle happen.

    My wife's cooking is based on Scripture. All cooking should be based on Scripture. I really doubt that any "pasta" dishes would be based on Scripture unless you consider them unleavened bread. This is the basic recipe for all occasions:

    Exodus 12:8
    And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.


    Flesh and bread and seasonings. Next, how NOT to prepare meats:

    Exodus 12:9
    Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof.

    No poaching or cooking in water, no steak tartar.

    That is koriander (cilantro). It is easy to grow, just toss some seeds with a bit of sand in a bed in your vegetable garden and you can harvest it in ~two months, maybe more or less depending on the temperature.

    You two seem to be very picky about your food. All the recipes I post are really good eating.

    I am getting concerned that you two might not get the nutrition you need, that you won´t be able to enjoy all the foods that are available to the maximum and that you might not reach your full weight potential. I do not mean fat but a bit chubby is healthy. Today I made pasta al funghi with home made pasta, served with steak. It is a real treat.

    Similar to this but then with added steak, cut up in slices just before serving:
