Good Evening Again, Friends in Freehold

What a blessing it is to watch spring come to our small City. The changing of the seasons is one of those gifts from God.

While some might say we had a brief bit of excitement this past week, mostly, things are as they should be in Freehold, quiet, orderly, comfortable and in control. What we do not want in our Godly City is surprise or change.

But, I must contradict myself a bit here. I hope that is OK. Coming right up, March 15, is some excitement. Anita Bryant will perform at my campaign BBQ. Hold on to your hats for that one (including your Hold for Mayor hats ). There will be music, food, fun, testifying and, tossed in the good measure, a political speech or two.

Anita is busy touring. As we speak, her bus is screeming toward Freehold.

I must respectfully decline to attend your fine BBQ. Anita after all is a female, and as such has at best questionable intellect.

As do I. Frankly, I have yet to meet someone who will actually go to this BBQ. I think the unfair arrest of Miss Cassandra and the lack of interest shown by Johny Joe Hold to uphold the law might have something to do with that.

I'm sorry you will not be attending, Mr. King. I also feel badly that Miss Cassandra will be elsewhere as well.

Contrary to your view that I have shown a lack of interest in Miss Cassandra's circumstances, I have instructed my campaign staff to send over to the jail a nice serving of BBQ for Miss Cassandra. I've also asked the campaign staff attorney to brief me on anything we might be able to do on behalf of Miss Cassandra's legal problems. He has not gotten back to me.
