Southern Baptist pedophile scandal


Orcinus wonders why this hasn't gotten the same attention that the Catholic Church's scandal has:

And so here it is -- in the form of hundreds of young women and men coming forward to tell their stories to judges and juries, exposing a decades-long pattern of unchecked predatory behavior on the part of their Baptist pastors. This parade, too, has gone on nearly non-stop and just as fast for nearly a year now -- so where are the reporters, the cameras, the headlines?

A few national papers have picked up on this, as has ABC's 20/20 (which did a report in April). Among bloggers, the perspicacious Pam Spaulding has been on the case. But mostly, the coverage has been confined to the local papers -- each one treating its own hometown pastor scandal as an isolated incident, without putting it in the context of a larger national trend. As long as the dots aren't being connected, this isn't getting anything like the 24/7/365 coverage that the Catholic scandal did.

We have to wonder: why did the Catholic Church get the full media treatment -- but all we hear about this still-exploding scandal is the sound of crickets chirping?

Having been accused of Catholic-bashing before, I feel compelled to point out similar failings in Protestant denominations. And if I hear about a juicy Unitarian Universalist sex scandal, I promise I'll post about it here.

This should be put in the King James Bible, as the 67 book, imo. After all it was a King and not God that wrote, according to the very cover.

This reeks of nothing more than a paranoid witch hunt against innocent pastors. All it takes is one quote taken out of context and misunderstood, then passed through hundreds of gossipy women's lips, and before you know it there's a rumor that a pastor is molesting kids. Where is the proof, I ask of you?

I also feel committed to defending these men because I know of at least two of them. Prior to moving here to Freehold and accepting the Senior Pastor position at Landover Baptist, I lived and ministered in Orange County, California for over 40 years. During my time living there I was blessed with meeting them.



Pastor Jeb is a committed family man with a very dear heart. Sometimes when I would go up to the Bay Area to do some evangelical outreach work, he would help. We would protest outside of gay clubs in the Castro District and pass out gospel tracts and info on ex-gay ministries. There is not a perverted bone in his body.


Deacon Roy Long is a soft-spoken, polite man who cares nothing but to read his KJV Bible all day. He is a very grandfatherly like figure and he always had kids come over to his house and he would make them lemonade and let them feed the ducks in his backyard pond.

Do these men look like creepy sexual predators to you?

I know these men personally and I know they would never harm a child, nor would have some kind of warped sexual deviancy in them. They are simply victims of liberal activist judges who have an agenda. Funny how you never heard of pastors getting arrested until Obama seized power in the coup, hmm? Makes you think.

Reverend, this pervert has been sniffing around this board for a couple of days now. First he was after the men, then after my dogs then he was sniffing around Lisa and Charli, the he thought he'd try and molest Felicity. Since all of the above have fully rebuked him (good on you girls ) he has now twisted this sick fantasy about us forcing young girls to marry 70 year old men and that we're all rapists.

I don't know what to tell you, he's obviously demon infested. He claims not to be catholic, but posts a bunch of catholic propaganda. He has been posting borderline child pornography and claiming that it's our fault he does it. He even uses a liebral bible and cherry picks it. I would say that he needs an exorcism, but I believe his heart is too hardened to accept it. I was even forced to send the wife out to put bitches-britches on the dogs because I was afraid he'd try to come after them.

Self Aware Sinner is very self-aware as to the quality of his humor. This is all a game to him, as if reaching out to the world about the power of Bible truth is some light-hearted jaunt while wearing a costume.

Molestation charges are a terrible burden on people. You get outcast from society and no one wants you around. You might as well be a cockroach. Couple years back some hysterical lady invited me to do her kids party so I did it and I took her 9 year old away privately behind the shed to talk to her one on one about the Gospel because she was being brainwashed by catholic schools. I started trying to tell the little girl she was hellbound and she wouldnt listen so I started telling her all the horrible things the Devil was going to do to her like rip off her limbs one by one and make her eat them. The little girl started crying and ran to her mom. Mom saw her come out of there alone with me and she jumped to conclusions.

Praise Jesus I was able to jump state that day. Thats also why I operate my business under an alias (and I'm unlicensed) because you never know what kind of deranged freak you'll run into.
