Moomin tales, especially the comics consider wide ranging topics and they often present very clever satire on the aching points and stupidities in the Finnish and Finnish-Swedish societies in a way that I consider a good lesson for young people on the weirdness of life.
The Japanese TV series is very mild and suitable for even the youngest children, especially compared to what the newer children's programs are. If you want a better subject for your unfounded hatred, take a look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biker_Mice_from_Mars
