  • Yu-Gi-Oh: Corrupting our children?

Now, I'm going to just get right to the point, as I am quite enraged right now. Now, my 10 year old son Tristan has been enamored with a TV show and TCG (Trading Card Game) called 'Yu-Gi-Oh!' Now, when I first saw the TV show, I was reluctant to let my son watch it, since it was A. not made in America, and B. Rather violent (the show depicts monster holograms fighting eachother), but I let him watch it because he claimed he would read the Bible every night (which is rather ridiculous, seeing as how he should regardless of his want to watch the show)

He seemed to be rather into the show after a few days, and asked me to take him out to buy some of the cards, so I bought him a starter deck and a few booster packs and thought nothing more of the corruption I was unintentionally giving my child.

Now, a few weeks later, I saw my son watching the show and on it, there was a very tempting looking woman with a very unsubtle pun as her name "Mai Valentine" (satanic anime image removed) a picture of her, for reference.

I immediately turned off the television and told him to go read a book, I was clearly panicked.

As he read, I went to go through the cards that I had bought him, and found other inappropriate things, including the 'Harpy Lady' card. (demonic anime image removed)

This show and its merchandise is desensitizing our children to sex and violence!

    I would appreciate your feedback/discussion.

Yu go oh and yu gi oh gx are both anime. It is the work of Satan. Brother, there have been many threads on this. I urge you to use our search engine to find out more!
    Matthew:
5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled
10:21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.
10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

      Hello Terry,
We certainly agree with your position as a parent regarding the poor morals put forth by the yugioh agenda.

Anything we can do to help you correct your children's desire to go down the wrong path to maturity we do with joy, Jesus is here to guide us.

Can you share any additional information about your particular situation?

How are we to know that you are not just some fool here to mock Jesus and play tricks on the good members of this forum? Don't take it personally; you have to understand the nature of the internet and the perverse desire of people to advocate a position that is completely contrary to their beliefs.
May you be a blessing to every life you touch.

What kind of horrible parent are you? Starter decks suck! You should have gotten him a structure deck!
I would recommend Structure Deck 6: Spellcaster's Judgement.
Dark Eradicator Warlock is an amazing card that comes with it.

I love how people here jump to conclusions.
                I am 16. Not a parent. I can't own a home.
Shows how dumb you are. Someone needs some common sense.
And no, I am not a Satan worshiping pedophile. I'm sure you are though.
By the way, you forgot to capitalize "Satan". It's a proper noun. Any good parent would know that, wouldn't they?

@ other dude who recommended the Marik deck.

Next time you see your kid plaing with those satanic cards; I sugest ripping them up and burning them right infront of him. Then give him a good spanking and tell him the brush up on his Bible verses.

I also recremend blocking the tv station that show is on. If it shows that smutt then I'm sure it has other satanic japanamation.

                    Good luck and God bless.

I know you feel intimidated here in the divine word of the lord and your inner knowledge of being a homersexual that play's kid's games in your teenage years hoping to lure young children into your lair of sin, but I want to personally invite you to the glory of God!!!!!!! It's not too late for you to turn to Jesus and repent, and as long as you provocatively follow the Word's of God for the rest of your life you may just find heaven at the end instead of the lake of fire you are currently purchasing short's to swim in.

                        Re: Yu-Gi-Oh: Corrupting our children?

I don't care how old this topic is, it was posted on a Yu-Gi-Oh! forum I frequent regularly, I followed the link and read everything you have to say and the ignorance of most of you astounds me. You're so caught up looking at the negative aesthetic of the game, well nitpicking the aesthetic to be quite honest, that you ignore any and all positivities to the game. Firstly to address an earlier point, complaining about provocative cards like 'Harpie Lady' and characters such as 'Mai Valentine', since very early on when Yu-Gi-Oh! has undergone a fair amount of censorship when translated from Japanese into English, in both the anime and the card game, for example character's outfits have been made less revealing, as have the outfits of cards such as the aforementioned 'Harpie Lady', artworks have been edited to take the horns off of cards to avoid demonic references, card names have been altered to save face when accused of being prejudiced towards religion.

But the main thing that annoys me about the synics on here, is that you completely ignore the values that people can draw from playing the game. I myself grew up a very shy person, didn't make friends easily and was always bullied growing up, but through playing the game I have met some wonderful friends who I treasure very much, my self-confidence and people skills have grown tremendously, my interactions with people are much less nervous and I feel comfortable with myself as a person.

My analytical mind has progressed leaps and bounds, playing the game is often a very tactical process, making reads about cards opponents play face down, predicting what moves they make and making decisive plays using intuition based on what you have deduced. Calculating life points mentally has sharpened my mental arithmetic. The psychology of the game has sharpened my mind and noticing micro-expressions of people to tell what they are thinking is a skill that I have been able to carry over to my relationships with friends in being able to tell when something is wrong and being able to help them out of difficult situations in their lives.

It's all very well people on here taking first glances at things like and judging based on the aesthetic and your first impressions, such as with the anime, you see monsters fighting and assume that it is displaying negativity to influence your children in a negative way, but do you notice how much the anime refers to the importance of notions such as friendship, teamwork, striving to achieve your goals in the face of adversity, the importance of family and the greater good? I'd put a pretty safe bet on saying that you don't. The phrase 'judge not, lest ye be judged yourself' comes to mind here, you judge on first impressions, 'don't judge a book by it's cover', read some of it, do some research and familiarise yourselves with the workings of the game, the morals the anime teaches and what your children, whom you are so eager to protect, can actually learn from the game to influence their lives in positive ways.

Also less of the abuse towards people holding the opposite view to yourself would be a good place for you all to start your re-education, from what I've read, your own morals are pretty dire, yet you block out the external teachings of genuinely worthwhile influences like Yu-Gi-Oh! but what can you yourself be teaching them if you behave so appallingly on a public forum.

There is not one mention of Jesus in you wall of text (which I did not understand).

Why are you an Atheist? Why do you hate God? Has He not given you the very words you write?

I am not an atheist, I believe in God, once again you are making judgments against something, or in this case, someone that you do not know.

Just because there is no mention of Jesus in what I said, does not make it irrelevant, I think you'll find that a lot of people posting here holding the opposite view, supposedly your view, do not reference Jesus either.

If you don't understand what I've written, then why don't you educate yourself, read over the topic and see how what I have written is relevant to the discussion. If you do not understand something, then don't attempt to get in on the discussion with such ignorance you have just displayed, and do not make assumptions about the people you do not know.
