I have an idea for a thread.
The men of the forum tell us their favourite dish, and then we ladies give our favourite recipe for that dish that the men can then pass on to their wives. I'm talking not only pies, but any dish, sweet or savoury. By doing this, we are serving the men of the forum.
I'll start with a recipe for 'pavlova', a delicious dessert suitable for all the family. It's a very large meringue which is soft inside and topped with whipped cream and finished with fruit or chocolate of your choice.
Preheat the oven to 150°C (300°F). Place the whites of 4 eggs in the bowl of an electric mixer and whisk until stiff peaks form. Gradually add one cup of superfine (caster) sugar, whisking well, until the mixture is stiff and glossy.
Add 2 tablespoons of sifted cornflour and 2 teaspoons of white vinegar and whisk until just combined. Shape the mixture into a 6 inch round on a baking tray lined with non-stick baking paper. Reduce oven to 120°C (250°F) and bake for 1 hour 20 minutes. Turn the oven off and allow the pavlova to cool completely in the oven.
Shortly before serving, whisk a cup of pouring cream until soft peaks form. Spread over the pavlova, top with passionfruit pulp or strawberries or sliced kiwi fruit or grated chocolate. Serve by cutting into slices like a cake.
