Psalm 51-55
Psalm 51
1 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
God is many things, in addition to finding out recently that he's terrible (Psalm 47:2) and imposes terror, today we find out that he's merciful and has lovingkindness.
3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
Aren't we all just transparent sinners in the eyes of the LORD.
4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
Friends, no matter what we do, if it's bad to another person, it is really a sin against the LORD. We don't HAVE to apologize to the others, we need to take it up with the Father.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
This "whiter than snow" is the the same that we True Christians(tm) can get when we bathe in the blood of Jesus. Jesus Blood(r) is a better cleaning agent than hyssop... although hyssop is probably a little more fragrant, but then, I prefer to do my laundry with unscented detergents.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
Jesus won't go living in no dirty heart!
13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
Most transgressors and sinner don't want to be converted, but we try anyway.
16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
Didn't Psalm 50:14 say that we had to pay our vows unto the most high? One chapter later, we are told that He doesn't want them.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
This is very true. A proud man, will not be able to serve God correctly. Someone who is happy with what they do and have will not make the changes necessary to become a True Christian(tm). Jesus won't take the wheel, if you still like driving the car!
19 Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
Oh, now it makes sense. Until one does have the broken spirit, then the sacrifices don't mean anything. It takes a person fully devoid of self for the LORD to accept his sacrifice.
Psalm 52
3 Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.
That's a bad person, who lies. Which isn't the same as bearing false witness. This is just a person who lies.
5 God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.
God will still destroy them, but it's not like they broke the commandments.
6 The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him:
Praise Jesus, isn't that what makes it all worthwhile, when we get to laugh at our enemies, when they are killed by the LORD. Everyday, I read my newspapers obit's and I laugh and laugh at all the people who are being sent to hell. This is my reward.
Psalm 53
1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.
All atheists are fools. Regardless of steps they may take for "science" or "humanity" all of it is crap. If they would just open their eyes, they'd know, there is a God.
Psalm 54
1 Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy strength.
Please Jesus, judge me, I'm ready.
3 For strangers are risen up against me, and oppressors seek after my soul: they have not set God before them. Selah.
Can't I go to heaven now? It's too hard here.
5 He shall reward evil unto mine enemies: cut them off in thy truth.
Ok, maybe I'll stick around a little bit longer, so I can laugh at them.
Psalm 55
1 Give ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not thyself from my supplication.
Please God, don't go off into hiding and wind up being a possibly insane burning bush. Stay out where we can see you, come back to us.
3 Because of the voice of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked: for they cast iniquity upon me, and in wrath they hate me.
And I need you more tonight; and I need you more than ever...
6 And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest.
I'm sailing away...
9 Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues: for I have seen violence and strife in the city.
Dear God, please destroy my enemies, and can you make it rain in Denver?
15 Let death seize upon them, and let them go down quick into hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them.
Please please please please
16 As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me.
I've paid MY insurance premium, they have not!
19 God shall hear, and afflict them, even he that abideth of old. Selah. Because they have no changes, therefore they fear not God.
Yay GOD!
23 But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of destruction: bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in thee.
An Old Testament God, that's my God!
So what have we learned today?
1. God loves a broken spirit.
2. God will kill my enemies.
3. When he does, it's ok for me to laugh at them.
