The reason I came here was because a friend sent me a link which had the reasons why me and my country was going to Hell in a handbasket, which I took exception to, and joined up so I could counter that or at least give you a run for the money. I for one don't allow myself to be brought down that easily. I don't let other people take cheap shots. So that was why I first came here.

Were you surprised when you came to this board and saw how rational and cogent all of our arguments were, how abundant our evidence was, and how factual all of our premises were? I'll bet that was a shocker for someone as closed minded as you, huh.

So, you're saying that, since it is the Word of God, man cannot corrupt it, and never write a false Bible, or what.. In that case seems you are saying that ALL Bibles are valid, because God wrote them, and not man. I know that isn't what you're saying so could you explain it in more detail, as I am struggling to make out the meaning.

Literally the Devil is in the details here.

The argument for the NIV is it is based on copies of The Bible that were "lost" and then "rediscovered" while the KJV1611 is translated from The Bible that has been in common usage. Can you see what is wrong with that reasoning? The Word of God "lost" to man. So were the people who though themselves good Christians during the "lost" period damned to Hell? This all centers around man being able to mess up what God wants.

As a mater of faith Christians believe

• God is all powerful
• God is all knowing
• God is perfect
• God is active in The World
• God knows the future.
• While man has free will, man can no alter God's plan.
• The Bible is God's message to The World.

Now can you see how man completely eliminating parts of God message for any period of time is quite unacceptable to Christianity? Remember Satan doesn't have the power of God. While Satan can lie to us he can't stop God.

Going back to the original topic, I really can't understand this obsession some Christians have with the KJV. Translation methods have improved greatly since the 17th century, and I think God would like the Bible to be as meaningful and up-to-date as possible.

The NIV and the Good News Bible are excellent translations, but nothing quite beats the beautiful poetry contained in Eugene Peterson's 'The Message'.

If the KJV1611 was good enough for Jesus it's good enough for me.

Christianity depends not only on Divine inspiration of Scripture, but also on Divine preservation of Scripture. God has promised to preserve His Word:

Psalm 12:6-7: The words of the LORD [are] pure words: [as] silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

Isaiah 40:8: The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

Matt. 24:35: Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

Therefore, one of the following must be true:

1. God has preserved His Word.
2. God has reneged on His promise to preserve His Word.
3. The Bible was never God's Word to begin with.
4. There is no God.

If you believe any of 2-4, then in what sense are you a Christian?

We also need to consider the implications for salvation if there were no preserved Bible:

Matt. 4:4: But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Matt. 7:21: Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

If we did not have an accurate record of God's words as they proceeded out of His mouth, and in particular of His will, salvation would be impossible.
