Re: Don't Be A Mr. Bungle!!
Ah Pastor, scenes of yesteryear when all around was goodness and light, I cannot but applaud the encouragement to good manners both at the table and elsewhere - something sadly missing in today’s “anything goes” society.
I’m not too sure about the washing of hands though. At the school I attended, The Birth of a Nation Junior High, Ga., I recall the Headmaster, Mr Jeremiah A Whiteman, personally inspected hands to make sure they had not been washed as per
M't:15:1: Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,
M't:15:2: Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.
[…]
M't:15:16: And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?
[…]
M't:15:19: For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
M't:15:20: These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.
Ah, how I enjoyed my time at that school and what a pity it later had to closed after outbreaks of cholera and dysentery, which Mr Whiteman blamed entirely on the forced introduction of piccaninnies in 1959.
And that brings me nicely to a point of interest here, I note the film was made in 1960 and yet there isn’t a single black face anywhere. Back then they knew a thing or two about the safety and proper education of the young and, look at those clothes; the woman of the house knew how to get whites properly white. Those were the days!
Many thanks for nostalgia.
