Because me neither. But since we are in an age where Donald Trump might annex new states to the world, it might be useful to remember when Sicily tried to become the 49th state of the United States, back in the post-fascist era.

If I remember rightly, Truman, although neutral on the matter was much influenced by Byrnes at the time. Byrnes was somewhat in favor of accepting Sicily as a state despite warnings from the Republicans that there were no Baptists on the island but there were communists, and consequently godless Sicilians were unlikely to contribute to society other that as part of "The Mob" or labor activists.

It was only when Eisenhower saved the nation, that John Foster Dulles put an end to the nonsense and instead annexed Alaska which had oil, fish and people like Sarah Palin and plenty of Baptists. A far more sensible choice.

President Trump cannot become Pope if he were to annex Rome, as Vatican City is an independent state. Beside, there is no need to change as Tradition is more important.
