If the Republican Party is so great...

If the Republican Party is so great, then why did John C. Frement lose against James Buchanan back in 1856?

Also, they needed Abraham Lincoln to win the election of 1860. If William Seward was nominated by the Republican Party, he would've lost.

And let's not forget the congressional and gubernatorial elections of 2006 in which the Republicans did not gain a seat or governorship.

Re: Abraham Lincoln: America's Worst President Ever

I was at The Library of Congress the other day, researching, H.H. Chalmers’ “The Effects of Negro Suffrage” (an extract available here) when I chanced upon this artistic and contemporary view of Lincoln within the book Abraham Africanus I : his secret life, revealed under the mesmeric influence ; mysteries of the White House. New York : J.F. Feeks [1864] complete with his pact with Satan.

It would appear from both works that Mr Lincoln was far from popular at the time and his many and varied crimes (suspending habeas corpus, etc.) were a contributory factor.

I realize that this might be hard to understand, but back then, the Democrats were Republicans, and the Republicans were Democrats. Try to keep up, boy.
