  • Witnessing to Mathematicians

I wanted to share an experience I had last week as a word of encouragement to anyone involved in ministering to the "scientifically minded".

I was in the lunch hall of the university I attend when I overheard two maths/physics geeks talking about how funny it is that mathematics keeps proving all sorts of things except God. I felt the spirit of boldness rise in me and I confronted them. The conversation proceeded like this:

Me: Of course secular maths doesn't prove God, secular maths won't even factor God into the equation.
Them: Are you saying there is secular and non-secular maths?
Me: Of course, there is secular and non-secular schools so of course there is secular and non-secular maths. (Common sense didn't seem like these guys strong point)
Them: Oh really? So you use non-secular maths?
Me: Yes, I went to a non-secular school, that is what I was taught.
Them: It doesn't matter what type of school you went to, maths is maths, there is no such thing secular or non-secular maths. (I don't really understand these atheistic darwin worshippers, one minute they want seperation of church and state and the next they say there is no such thing as secular and non-secular things.)
Me: Yes there is! There is a huge difference between secular and non-secular maths, the fact that you can't prove God with secular maths proves it! (They were getting a bit angry with me now but I wasn't afraid, I'm sure they couldn't physically hurt me, probably the only exercise they do is playing World of Warcraft and my Armor of Faith is easily superior to their pixelated reflexes)
Them: Your absolutely wrong! It doesn't matter whether you went to a secular or non-secular school, 2+2 still equals 4! (When they said that I felt the fire of the Holy Spirit moving on me, it was like I was being granted the gift of toungues so I could speak into the situation with Godly precision!)
Me/Holy Spirit: You see, that is where you are wrong! You are using secular maths. If you used non-secular maths you'd know that the second "2" is really two halves! Therefore, in your equation there, 2+2 equals 3! And that isn't just some random number, look closely at the non-secular answer...THREE! The very number of the Trinity! Even the simplest of mathematical equations prove the existence of God!
Them: .......... (They just stood there looking at me for a moment, I could tell that God was really working hard on their hearts just by the expressions on their faces! They kind of just walked off after that, I didn't press it, I knew that I had played my part in God's plan)

I think those two told all the other science nerds on campus about what happened, I see them pointing me out from time to time but none of them will talk to me. I believe God really did something in them, and now they are just afraid of giving up their sinfull MMORPG'ing ways. I keep praying for them, that they will come to know the love of Christ and stop hiding in their silly secular maths and physics.

    Dear Brother,

God need not be proven. Even if "logic" disproved the existence to God, He would still exist. To hold otherwise is to make "logic" into a false idol with power over God.

    If God says 2 + 2 = 5, it does.

    THE BIBLE!

    Yours in Him,
    BAB

why would the second 2 be two halves? is it some sort of weird shit thing? Then 2+2+2 would be 2+1+0.5? lolwut.

I don't think you even read what I wrote, I shouldn't have to explain basic maths concepts, if simple addition is beyond your understanding you need to stay out of this thread.

But you do know you are calculating with arabian numbers? And in arabia they are muslims, which make you support the muslims >:O!

But you do know you are writing on a Christian forum? And Christian forums are full of Christians, which makes you support God >:O!

So go read the Bible heathen.

“The good Christian should beware of mathematicians and all those who make empty prophecies. The danger already exists that mathematicians have made a covenant with the devil to darken the spirit and confine man in the bonds of Hell.” Augustine.

Augustine was, of course not a True Christian™ but, on this occasion, God used him to voice His disquiet over secular math. You, my friend have taken the Godly route with non-secular Math. An altogether more satisfactory direction in which irrational numbers, e.g. pi, are rationalized at the Command of the Almighty:

1Ki:7:23: And he made a molten sea, ten cubits from the one brim to the other: it was round all about, and his height was five cubits: and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.

                Pi = 3.

Are you one of those God-Hating people who approve of discriminating against a person merely on the grounds of his religion? You're no better than a racist!

You're quite clear in your prejudices that Christian beliefs have no value in a learning environment.

If it had been a nigra and I said, "I'm sure they talked about you with their professors, probably trying to understand how you managed to get into college." You lieberal types would have been down on me like a falling Beckstein. But if it's a Christian, oh, no! They're fair game for persecution and stereotyping...

Anyway, it's clear that you're on the hellbound path and showing no signs of being sensible and accepting Baby Jesus into your heart. I will turn the other cheek and pray for you.

Such arrogance! Mathematicians and scientists make me so angry!
                          Romans:
1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
