I totally agree with this. As long as science doesn't start trying to lie (always to be refudiated by its-goddam-self eventually, time and time again) about the way things really are and come into conflict with the Bible.

Otherwise I think science can be perfectly complementary to the Bible. That's why we have the Creation Science section of the forum. You should check it out in detail.

I'm familiar with the Bible, and I've studied it partially. I have not yet gone through it fully, although I can discuss most points as well as pull up specific important examples.

OK, mr. never-read-the-Bible-but-knows-what's-in-it, how about some specific examples of Jesus' principles and convictions? Feel free to use Google or any other Bible resource.

Jesus preached that people can be saved from sin by turning to God and repenting. And that anyone can do this, even if you have done many wrongs, or if you are the smallest man from the smallest tribe, even if you are not of the Israelites.

He preached that to really be a Christian, you must deeply internalize the concepts and live by them (see: mustard seed parable, and the arguments against the pharisees).

He emphasized forgiveness, and emphasized righteous behavior (no lying, stealing, killing, adultery, bearing false witness, hypocrisy, and so on). Although you should not harbor hate, you can defend yourself and those close to you (Jesus showed this by whipping the money-changers out of the temple).

Your conduct is important above all. Just as God gives you grace, you should pay that grace forward.

I have noticed several debates on this particular subject here. To all you godless atheists out there, let's settle this once and for all...

In the modern world it has become a widely spread lie that the earth is round. Of course, this is impossible. If the earth is round, then why don't people just fall off at the bottom?

The answer is simple: The Earth is not round!

Now, if we take a look at some scripture, it clearly tells us the earth is not round but flat:

Jeremiah 16:19:
O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.

According to Jeremiah 16:19, the earth has ends. There is no way a spherical earth could have ends, and therefore the earth must be flat. The Book of Revelation tells a similar story:

Revelation 7:1:
And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

A spherical earth cannot have corners, it is scientifically impossible. The only logical explanation is that the earth is flat. Checkmate atheists!

Isaiah 40:22:
It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

As you can see, this is a solid proof the Earth is flat. Why else would it have edges like these? ...because the earth is flat! That's why.

I do not mock Scripture.

I believe that the earth is a sphere, since this has been corroborated by so many different sources. In addition, the "circle of the earth" line could just as easily have been referring to a sphere rather than a disc, imo.

I've explained this dozens of time. Go back and read my posts. Your opinion is worthless. You cannot read the Hebrew texts. If you were able to, you would know how stupid your opinion is.

There is a Hebrew word for flat circle and there is a Hebrew word for ball, globe or orb. Guess which one the bible uses? God used exactly the word he meant.

If this is incorrect and the word specifically refers to a circle or coin-shape, then I'll stand corrected. I'm not a biblical scholar. However, it's reasonable for me to hold this view when it is backed by several sources.

Yes, but if you look under the Gesenius lexicon section, there should be a picture of scanned text - which says that it could be a circle or a sphere.

I have. A good few of the pictures are paintings, photo manipulations simply done in Photoshop (or another photo editing program) or diagrams.

I am not here to cause trouble. I am merely looking for a respectful debate through which I may learn more on how your beliefs differ from mine.

Also, I'd like some real evidence on different matters so I may ponder on the subject and see in which ways both parties' (Christians and Atheists/Agnostics) views are flawed.

If the simple acts of tolerance and curiosity are what will earn me a place in hell, then so be it.
