Just imagine how many more of the things you think of as scientifically accurate because someone who was mistaken told you something with no actual evidence but their authority and you sucked it right up...

I was trying to explain it in a simple way. Wind and weather still play an important role in the coriolis effect. I'm thinking that you don't already, but never listen to a weather forecast again if you don't think this exists.

Considering my intellect has surpassed simply going to ask a science teacher; I am able to think on my own of how this phenomenon would have occurred in nature. A butterfly, that is just plain silly; interesting choice though, considering we have proof that caterpillars turn into butterflies (and yes you can watch this in your lifetime)

Oh, thank you for that. However, it still has an effect on the direction weather circulation, or convection, the toilet was just a more simple example for some [and totally wrong]. Considering electromagnetism is the work of the devil in this forum, yet is a must to a pilot traveling via a compass.

Wanted to address a few things here:

In terms of speaking about evolution in general, it doesn't really speak about the origin of life. That is a separate subject matter. It simply tries to provide a natural means by which changes between individuals and species can occur. Yes, people have been able to create amino acids and organic compounds that could form a sort of blastula of those organic compounds. Of course, actually formulating life is not a simple process for us if it is possible at all. Life did not come from rocks. Rocks are completely inorganic minerals. However, life could have possibly come from organic materials. It's the process of 'how' that we do not yet know about yet. The Bible does indeed provide an answer in Genesis, however as it cannot be something that's tested or given evidence of, its not something sought in science. Science tends to try to look for a natural means in which something may occur.

The experiment with the cat will always end up the way it did. It's impossible for anything to spontaneously change immediately like that. Such an experiment does nothing to prove or disprove evolution as nothing about evolution would claim that a creature can change in such a fashion immediately. I know that most everyone is willing to believe in biological micro-evolution because that can and has been proven. People are always pointing to biological macro-evolution that is more difficult. Though I agree that there are still things that need to be explained, there is a considerable amount of evidence to show that it is possible. Today, that is aided a fair bit by genetic research.

The description of 'Survival of the Fittest' really isn't that great of a descriptor for evolution either. That tends to imply that only the strong, or most physically capable individual survives. It's better to say that those that are best suited to their environment will survive.

Talking about fish and lungs? Well, there are some fish that actually have lungs. There are many reasons why a creature may try to venture out onto land. As amphibians tend to live in both land and water during one part of life or another, they tell a lot about such reasons. Generally speaking it's usually one of two possibilities. Avoiding predation and searching for food.

I'm in agreement about the Coriolis effect. It's a weak force that generally only affects large things. Hurricanes being a good example of what it 'can' effect. Toilet bowls, not so much...

I will also add another thing about the curvature of the Earth. An easy thing to try to watch. On a nice, clear day, if you look out onto the horizon and watch a ship sail off over the ocean, you can begin to see the ship slowly dip past the horizon. I would suggest trying this simple experiment because it can help show that the surface of the earth must, in fact, be rounded.

Well said!! It is hard to state thing in simplistic terms in order for the people on this forum to understand. Although it is almost pointless, because they won't change their minds, just as we won't change ours. However, it is frustrating when you spend years of your life in college learning these things and experimenting in order to provide physical evidence that science is fact and works.

Actually, my understanding has no gaps, it is just hard to fill the gaps in your understanding on the topic.

Take moment and look up the mudskipper fish. It is a fish that "walks" on land. Frogs start out as fish, "tadpoles," as well.

I don't believe it was as simple as a fish walking on land one day. It is a fish like a mudskipper where over time this animal "evolved" to accomplish the task of walking in land easier and more effectively. Eye sight is a better example, there are still animals in earth who "see" through photo sensitive (light sensitive) cells, in our case or in other animals it was more effective and easier for hunting and survival if our eyes worked better than just sensing light. Bats or miles evolved to see through sonar or vibrations since they live primarily in darkness.

Please, go and tell your science teacher this, and see what they say.
