Although I respect personal opinions especially when it comes to religious topics I must say that I'm pretty shocked to learn that you, as what seems to be a reputable member of ths community, think the pursuit of knowledge is something a good christian shouldn't spend his time on...

Let's take this in two stages.

1. What have personal opinions got to do with religion?

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

2 Peter 3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

Proverbs 18:2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

Ecclesiastes 10:3 Yea also, when he that is a fool walketh by the way, his wisdom faileth him, and he saith to every one that he is a fool.

2. We are commanded by God to avoid seeking knowledge. Take it up with God.

1 Timothy 6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:

Job 11:7 Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?

Romans 11:33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

Psalm 139:6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

Psalm 131:1 LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

Jeremiah 45:5 And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the LORD: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest.

So you see, we were warned about people like you full of your own importance and not to seek the wrong sort of knowledge and to try to guess how God did things. So why do you think we're going to listen to you? You certainly seem like one of those scoffers: a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Matthew 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Where did you get that idea? There is nothing wrong with science. Science brought us the atomic bomb and the drones which America uses to kill unbelievers all over the world. The only thing that is wrong is pseudo science like evolution and gravity that directly contradicts the Holy Bible.

Well, I thought "ALL SCIENCE IS EVIL, AND FROM SATAN!" was pretty explicit.. anyway, let me first point out that when it comes to drawing a line between 'good' and 'bad' science, obviously that's a topic where we differ.

And gravely so.

As I see it, trying to understand and learn from the Lord's creation, precisely stuff like how gravity works, is the most noble form of the pursuit of wisdom.
Just think about how much is dependant from knowing in what way the forces working between two masses are influenced by factors like velocity or distance. Disciplines like archtecture or aviation on their present scale need this sort of knowledge.

Next, believer or not, life is God's greatest gift. By giving it to you the Lord declared you worthy of it and no man has the right to hamper with his decision of giving it, much less does anyone but the Lord himself have the right take it away.

Now, (ab)using what we learned from God's creation to invent something with the sole purpose of committing the hideous crime towards God that the non-natural ending of a human life is does not look like 'good' science to me, it strikes as nothing but a blatant betrayal.
And eventually even this application of science reqiures understanding before realization, or do you think the atomic bomb would have been possible without people figuring out how to perform nuclear fission?

Although I respect personal opinions especially when it comes to religious topics I must say that I'm pretty shocked to learn that you, as what seems to be a reputable member of ths community, think the pursuit of knowledge is something a good christian shouldn't spend his time on while regarding individual men acquiring the power to wipe out millions of lives by simply pushing one button as a move in the right direction.

If you are low your view is blocked by obstacles, the higher you get the less obstacles block your view and the more you can see.

The point is that this applies regadless of obstacles.

Take lighthouses for example.
No obstacles are in the way; how come the signal of a higher lighthouse can be seen over a longer distance than an equally bright signal on a less high lighthouse?

Another way of telling the earth's definite shape is watching the moon at night, or more specificly, the shadow earth casts on the moon:
Although the angles of the sun and moon keep varying the shape of earth's shadow remains a circle.
This is only possible if earth's shape is spherical.

This was God's specific instruction to Adam and Eve,

Genesis 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

I'm not quite aware of the contradiction in this, how does trying to figure out how the world works hinder whatever you understand as 'replenishing' it?

After all science and all its achievements help us at doing God's work.
"Subdue the World", the Lord said and so we do.

This was God's specific instruction to Adam and Eve,

Genesis 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Since you quote it I take it that like us you accept His six day Creation and reject the silly notions of evolution or an old Earth?

SO I am a christian. I'm 20 years old and I grew up in a christian home. I have served God all my life. When I was 12 years old my family moved to Honduras to be missionaries to the lost people there. Now I have several problems with what I've read so far. God is love. Do you agree with this? If so then how can you say God hates this... or God hates that... In fact I'm pretty sure there is only one place in the bible where It says that God hates anything. So please tell me how can he hate all these people that yall claim he hates? Goths? homosexuals? "retards" as you call them. Let me ask you people something. do you hate all these people as well?

So I realize that I am getting nowhere with such a closed minded group of individuals. This forum states that all science is "evil". It pains me to have knowledge that people think this way, given how far humanity has come.

I would like to leave you with this.

As a engineer, I am an applied scientist; meaning that I take science and math in order to create new things and fix any problems of existing things. This means if you think science is evil then...

1) stop writing on this forum because by doing so you harness the computer science involved in creating the computer.

2) disconnect your power that runs your computer and your home, because electrical scientist help provide you with alternating current electricity from electromagnetism.

3) get out of your house, because your house is a derivative of collective sciences in order for you to stay warm and dry, not to mention the structural integrity of the house itself.

4) walk away, you car is all science

5) strip off all your clothes, because mist clothes is manufactured now using technology and therefor science (even looms have science to it)

6) feed off the land and enjoy cold food, fire is science, unless you find it naturally like in a forest fire, but that would be too dangerous.

So good luck living amongst the land nakid eating cold food because that is the only way you can avoid technology and science.

It is just an example of how an animal can have lungs in the water. Frogs, salemanders, water snakes and turtles are some more examples; would you like to refute their ability to walk on land and breathe without any problem. By the way aquatic salemanders are considered to be amphibious fish (fish with legs)
