If the world was FLAT, much like popular belief before the 1500's, you would drop off the face of the earth if you sailed too far.

But, alas, this is impossible. If I sailed from the United States directly west, I would eventually make my way through the Pacific, through the Indian Ocean, down past Africa, through the Atlantic, and end up on the east coast of the United States.

What you are teaching is very unBiblical. The Bible teaches that the Earth is flat. Jesus could see all the kingdoms of the world from a mountain top, remember? Or haven't you read the Bible?

Obviously you can see that Antarctica circles the edge of the Earth. Antarctica is a huge wall of ice, so that's what keeps sailors from falling over and the oceans leaking out.

Furthermore, you can see on the map you could go from the US west, through the Pacific, through the Indian Ocean, past Africa, through the Atlantic, and end up in the same location. It's just a very very wide circle. It's so wide it only appears to be a straight line.

Okay, sure, the earth has to be flat. But what's the farthest you could see from any mountain? It's not that far, is it?

The earth must, in fact, have had HUGE mountains at that time.

I completely agree Miss Kelsea! I mean come on! If the world was flat that would disprove yearssss of research and such. So you all are pretty much saying that the rules of gravity don't exist. And If Gravity doesnt exist then humans would not be able to stay on the surface of the Earth. Everybody would float!!! =0 Also where in the Bible does it say that the world is flat??? Now as a reader of the Bible and a believer in God I simply cannot fathom the Earth being flat. It is not blasphemy that it is Spherical. How can it be????

The surface area of the earth is 510,072,000 kilometers squared. As a sphere, it is entirely possible for a person to stand atop a high surface and see flat ground due to the surface area. If we were able to see a rounded surface, the surface area would obviously be smaller.

When Jesus stood atop the mountain, he could see all the kingdoms because of the wide surface area, not because the world is flat.

God is capable of creating a planet that is rounded.

Without a rounded Earth, orbit around the sun would be much different. Our days and nights would be altered, as well as our climate.

The earth is round and spherical.

Now as a reader of the Bible and a believer in God I simply cannot fathom the Earth being flat. It is not blasphemy that it is Spherical. How can it be????

If you'd bother to read the thread you would see numerous Bible verses that indicate the Earth is flat. Yet, you reject these verses. Why? Don't you believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God?

If the Bible is wrong about the Earth, then it might be wrong about 7-day creation, the Exodus, the Ten Commandments, even the existence of Jesus Christ! That is the damning road to atheism. You either accept the Bible or reject it. Can't have it both ways.

I agree. There are multiple layers to the Earth, and without all three gravity would be an impossibility.

Think about this for a second. If Jesus is standing on a mountain in Israel, how could He see a kingdom in Israel's antipode? (That means on the opposite side of the spherical Earth.) Even if the mountain was a thousand miles high, you couldn't see the other side. It's physically impossible.

So either the Gospels are wrong or a random person on the internet is. Hmm...which is it I wonder?

Of course He is capable. God is omnipotent. He is capable of creating three-headed gorillas...but He didn't.

There are several reasons your logic is terribly faulty. First, if someone sailed to the edge of the Earth and fell off, they would not be around to tell you about it now, would they?

Gods divine Guiding Hand(r) keeps people from straying too close to the edge. So as you sail along the edge (really hundreds of miles from it, farther than you could ever see) Gods Guiding Hand(r) makes you 'think' you are sailing in a straight line. Think about it, if sailed close to the edge (within a few hundred miles) of the earth, it would seem like you were going straight.

Now, stop making those ridiculous statements and and instead, lets all talk about how much we love Jesus!
