Although I haven't been able to convict myself to any particular faith in my life I have through my experience become quite familiar with secular (as well as creation) science.

It is apparent to me that you are in desperate need of some good ol'-fashioned book-learning. In addition, I will not offer any rebuttals to your proposed experiments because doing so requires at minimum a grade-school education, which clearly none of you have attained.

I propose three scientific experiments to prove that the earth is in fact not flat. Here goes:

1. The sun is lower in the sky as you travel north, but stars such as Polaris, the north star, are higher in the sky. Other bright stars such as Canopus, visible in Egypt, disappear from the sky.
What this experiment tells us: The earth is a sphere.

2. Observe the moon during a lunar eclipse, you will notice that the earth casts a circular shadow. Spheres in R^3 (like the earth) can be visualized as circular shadows in R^2.
What this experiment tells us: The earth is a sphere.

3. Stick two live plants on a continuously rotating wheel for a few days and observe that their growth tends along the centrifugal vector. This indicates that plants are sensitive to the effects of acceleration (gravity for those of you who never made it past middle school physics). The natural centrifugal vector is aimed at, you guessed it, the center of our spherical earth.
What this experiment tells us: The earth is a sphere.

It is appalling that you do not recognize the amazing gains science has brought to mankind. When people stop burning each other like pastries for committing alleged acts of sacrilege against their Sky God the world will truly be a better place.

this shows you how important it is for your eternal salvation that you have found God's Own Forums here at Landover Baptist. There are too many "Baptist" churches out there who will bow to modern rationalist concepts like a spherical earth or even heliocentrism. While I'm no fan of the Papists, they did know how to effectively deal with heretics like Giordano Bruno with their misplaced faith in rational thought.

But fortunately, we have scripture to guide us through temptations of reason in such times of need:

Revelation 7:1 And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

So one thing is certain: The earth cannot be a sphere, because a sphere does not have four corners. But of course that still leaves two options either a) the earth has a flat, rectangular or square form, or b) the earth is a tetrahedron.


While the idea of living on a tetrahedron feels inherently... wrong for being too 3-Dimensional, currently I am at a lack for scripture to clearly rule out this hypothetical possibility. Perhaps one of the pastors can help clear this up?

But rest assured sister Jessica that we are in any case not living on a sphere - and that you should detatch yourself from those around you who tempt you with such blatant heresy. For as the lord told us:

1. Assume, for just a second, those crazy scientists are right. If the Earth is spinning, so is everything on its surface.

Here is something you can do at home. Grab a soccer ball, a remote control, anything. Start running in any random direction. While you are still running, gently toss it straight up. You see how your momentum keeps it moving in the same direction as you, at the same speed? When you catch it, while still running, it seems as though it falls right back down to you, just like you fall right back down to that rapidly spinning planet of ours.

2. This whole gravity mumbo-jumbo you refuse to even try to understand, doesn't say "people are attracted to the Earth", it says "mass is attracted to mass". The Earth (at least according to them) is quite large. If gravity is true and mass really is attracted to mass, then the large Earth is massive enough to attract all things on it. The balloon you just blew up is no where near massive enough to have a significant gravitational pull, even against the smallest piece of paper your astoundingly nimble fingers can cut.

3. OK, this one is a little confusing. The reason you can't see the curve of the Earth's surface is because the Earth is just too large. Imagine are standing in the middle of a large field. Just because you can't see the edge of the field doesn't mean that it goes on forever.

But doing your test, the highest a photo of the Earth has ever been taken from is outer space, and you can see from that picture the curve of the Earth quite clearly.

Why would you assume a crazy person to be right? Why don't you think for yourself and accept science and evidence as it is presented here.

Here is something you can do at home. Grab a soccer ball, a remote control, anything. Start running in any random direction. While you are still running, gently toss it straight up. The problem with this assumption is that momentum only works in a straight line. If you take something in your hand and then swing your arm and let go the object you held will fly away in a straight line, it does not continue in a curve. The same with earth: if earth was spinning and you threw something in the air then that object would keep its straight line momentum and fly off into space. In reality the object would fall straight back, proving that earth is not spinning.

But if the balloon doesn't have mass as you claim, then it also shouldn't be attracted to earth. However filling a balloon with air will still let the balloon fall down. And if you fill the balloon with helium (which according to scientists has mass) it will actually go up, proving that gravity is a lie.

Really? If you stand 20 miles away from a mountain can you not see the edge of the mountain against the sky? You can see the edge of something large from far away. If what you're looking at is as large as earth then you should be able to see the edge from hundreds of miles away, but according to you you can't. Your logic again fails to hold up.

Haha, someone just stood on some steps and took a picture from space... Ridiculous. The people of Babel tried that and what happened? God struck their tower down and spread the people all over the world.

I simply cannot see how you can't see that the world is round! It is incredibly widely accepted even amongst most religious groups! Anyhow I think I should explain why all 3 methods are totally wrong.

1. (Jumping)
Admittedly this sounds right and rather confusing but it makes perfect sense. We are spinning with the Earth so we have it same rate constantly, if we are to jump that does not change our velocity.

This can be seen on planes, when flying in a jumbo jet you can happily walk around and jump without being thrown back because of the speed of the plane!

2. (Blowing up a Balloon to represent Earth)
This is an absolutely rubbish argument. For the sake of argument assume at least for this gravity is real! This experiment would not work, for a start the proportions of a balloon to your paper are incredibly different to earth to a person. The paper is much larger, much, much larger.

Also I assume you are doing this experiment on Earth so the massive gravity of the Earth will have an effect on the paper which will be literally billions (if not more) of times more strong than the balloon to the paper.

Gravity is an incredibly weak force, for example your arm can lift up going against the entire strength of the Earth's gravity so how much of an effect will a tiny balloon have!

3. (Get High)
I don't understand this argument, the experiment simply doesn't work!

You would agree that on a flat Earth, large oceans would be a flat expanse of water yes? So this would mean that when looking out of a planes window over the Atlantic ocean it would flat! Unfortunately it does not - it is clearly curved!
