We know the Earth is flat because the Bible tells us so. But for those of you skeptical, close-minded types that flat out refuse to accept the overwhelming Biblical evidence, I have designed some experiments you can do at home that will show you, before your very eyes, that the world is indeed flat, and not spherical as some crazy scientists proclaim. It's amazing how many people blindly believe in a spherical Earth, without ever having seen it for themselves! I intend to change that.


1) Jump!
Now, scientists claim that Earth is spherical and rotating at a speed of between 700-1000 miles per hour, depending on your latitude. This is a very high rate of speed. You can disprove this nonsense by simply jumping up as high as you can. Really, it's that simple. What happens when you jump? You come straight down to where you were. But, if the Earth were indeed spinning at such a fast speed, wouldn't you land hundreds of feet away?

If you were to stand in the flat bed of a truck going 75 mph, and jump straight up, what would happen? You wouldn't fall straight down. You would fall out of the truck. That's because trucks move, the Earth doesn't. This experiment proves the Earth is fixed in space and doesn't move.


2) Blow!
Since if the Earth is supposedly a sphere, it naturally comes to assume what would happen to people below the equator, like in Australia? Since they are underneath the sphere, wouldn't they fall off? This is where scientists come up with mumbo-jumbo like "gravity" and "centrifugal force" to explain away their theories. So, the scientists want you to think that because the earth is so much more massive than people or things, that people will naturally "stick" to the bottom of the earth because of gravity.

This can be disproved very simply. Get a balloon and inflate it as big as possible. It will be a spherical shape. Now, take a piece of paper and try to rip, tear, or cut the tiniest speck of paper possible. This paper represents a human being, much smaller in mass to the balloon, which represents the Earth. Now try and place the small piece of paper to the underside of the balloon. What happens? It falls off!

That's right. Even though the balloon is so much bigger in mass, it cannot hold the tiny paper. So if the Earth was a sphere, no one could live below the equator because they would fall off.


3) Get High!
Ok, this one you really can't do at home, but you can do it out in the world. Stand on the ground and look around you. What's the farthest you can see? Maybe it's a building, tree, or mountain. Now, find some place very close to it where you can get a much higher vantage point. (This also works if you're on a jet and about to take off.) Notice how in the higher place you can see much farther? You can see more of the world the higher you get. This shows the world is flat because the higher you go, the easier it is to see over obstacles. At the same time, it shows the world cannot be spherical. Because if the world was curved, the far distance would forever remain out of view because of the Earth's curvature. It would eternally be over the horizon.

If the Earth was a sphere, it would not matter how high you went, you would still see the same thing. Since this is not the case, the Earth is flat.


These experiments are all confirmed by creation scientists as being 100% accurate. If you're skeptical of the flat Earth, why don't you do these experiments so you can see truth with your own eyes.

1Jump: We as well as all the air and matter in our atmoshpere are moving at the same speed. The reason you fall out of a truck is that there is resistance created by the "stationary" (air moving at the speed of the earths rotation) air. You are moving through this stationary air and that's why you would fall out the back if you jump out.

3High: This is just nonsense. If you had any perception of angles and trig you could see that the higher you go the farther the tangent point of view is projected on the earths surface.

These experiments show me no proof that the earth is flat. If anything they prove that the earth is spherical.

None of these experiments prove that the Earth is flat.

Here's why:

Acting on all objects on the Earth are forces. The force that is easiest to see and demonstrate is gravity. The force on an object due to gravity is known as weight. When people say that a football player is 260 pounds, for example, what they are saying is that the force of gravity due to the Earth on this person is equal to 260 pounds of force.

Any force is equal to the objects mass multiplied by its acceleration. The acceleration due to gravity on all objects on Earth is 32 feet per second squared (written as ft/s^2). The unit of mass in the standard system is called the slug. The 260 lbs football player I mentioned earlier would have a mass of approximately 8.125 slugs. Thus, each pound is actually the force it takes to change the velocity of a 1 slug object at a rate of 1 foot per second.

As I said in the previous paragraph, acceleration is a measure of the change velocity. The velocity, in turn, is a measure of the change of an object's position. If we were to imagine a line with numbers on it, with all of the numbers being equidistant from one another, it would look something like this:


-5...-4...-3...-2...-1...0...1...2...3...4...5

If we imagine a dot at 0, we would say that it's position is at x=0, where x is the line we imagined. If we move the dot to the number 5, it's position is now at x=5.

Imagine that it took 1 full second for the dot to move from the x=0 position to the x=5 position. We would say then that the dot had a velocity of 5 units per second, as algebraically velocity is expressed as position divided by time, or x/s. If the dot then traveled from the x=5 position to the x=-5 position, and it took the dot 2 full seconds to do so, then we would say that the dot had a velocity of -5 units per second, as velocity is a measure of an object's speed and it's direction. Average velocity is calculated by taking the final position (in this case x=-5), subtracting from that the original position (giving us -5-5 = -10), and then dividing that by the time it took (-10/2 = -5).

Acceleration then, is a measure of how quickly an objects velocity changes. For this, I'll use the analogy of a car. If you're traveling along a freeway at 60 miles per hour, and someone in front of you stops for no good reason, you need to hit your breaks to avoid a collision. A velocity of 60 miles per hour translates to .01666667 miles per second. If it takes you exactly half of a second to stop your car, your velocity changed from .01666667 miles per second to 0 miles per second. As with calculating velocity, take the final, subtract the initial, and then finally divide by the time it took. In this example, your car had an acceleration of -.03333333 miles per second squared. Acceleration can be written as v/s, or as x/s^2.

As I said earlier, a force (denoted as F) is equal to an object's mass times its acceleration. Thus, we can write a force as F=ma, F=mv/s, or as F=mx/s^2.

However, considering the forumla F=mv/s, we can multiply both sides of the equation by s, giving us Fs=mv. This, along with F=ma, will be important.

mv is an object's momentum. This is the concept that at a given velocity, a more massive object is harder to stop or start than a less massive one. You can easily test this if you have 2 objects with a different weight that are approximately the same size and shape. Throw the lighter one first, and note how much effort it took you to throw it. Then throw the heavier one. The heavier one too more effort to throw. Momentum can be abbreviated with as the letter p. This is an object's tendency to remain in motion until something else acts upon it. Fs is the Impulse, which is basically how much effort it took you to throw the heavier object. Impulse is abbreviated as I.

Thus, we have the two formulas F=ma and I=p.

In the first of Rev. Jim Osborne's experiments, he suggests that you jump, and upon seeing that you do not fly hundreds of feet, that you should conclude that the Earth is flat.

However, the Earth spinning does not suggest that this would happen at all.

We can see why if we imagine a grid, much like that on graph paper. Going across the page would be the Earth, and straight up would be towards the sky. If we say that the Earth is rotating to the right on our grid, before we jump we are also rotating to the right with a certain velocity. Once we jump, we still maintain that velocity as nothing is acting on us in that direction to cause us to change either our speed or our direction. In the other direction, the direction towards the sky, the very instant that we Jump the force of gravity begins acting on us to pull us back down towards the Earth.

Thus, not flying hundreds of feet is consistent with the Earth being spherical.

In the example of the truck going 75 mph, things are slightly different, but they still follow the same principles. The major difference is that, unlike just jumping up from the Earth, jumping off of the truck has you subject to wind resistance. This is because as the Earth rotates it brings the atmosphere along with it, so that relative to the Earth, the lower levels of the atmosphere where we all live to not move in relation to the Earth. However, since the truck is moving with a velocity relative to the atmosphere, it is subject to wind resistance, and so are you as you jump off of the truck.

When cars maintain a certain speed, they must constantly accelerate as wind resistance and friction act to slow down the vehicle. A car or truck is able to maintain a constant speed of 75 mph as it continues to accelerate in the face of the opposing forces. Once you jump off of the truck however, you are no longer able to accelerate yourself (by virtue of being in the air), so you are immediately subject to air resistance, which decreases your velocity relative to truck. Everything else, including gravity pulling you straight down, is the same, and its still consistent with the Earth being spherical and rotating.

The next experiment suggested is that you can prove that the Earth is flat by sticking a piece of paper to a balloon, and that people in the Southern hemisphere would fall off the Earth if it was flat. However, both of these are untrue.

Gravity is a force, and forces add in both magnitude and direction. Magnitude is a measure of how large something absolutely is, such as how large the rate of change in velocity is for acceleration.

A good example would be of two school children. The first one is very large and muscular, while the second is very small and frail. If the two children were to wrestle over a third object, say a bookbag or a wallet, the the larger child would win because he is stronger and more powerful.

In the same way, even though the balloon is pulling on the piece of paper, so is the Earth. The balloon is like the little wimpy kid, the Earth is the huge brute, and the piece of paper is the bookbag. There's no way the balloon could get the piece of paper by gravity alone, as the balloon just isn't strong enough to pull the piece of paper away from the Earth.

As for the people in the Southern Hemisphere falling off of the Earth, that's also explained by gravity.

All objects have a center of mass, including the Earth. The center of mass is where an object is balanced. For example, if you took a long metal rod, and put a single support right under it's center of mass, the rod would not fall, even though almost all of it is unsupported. This is because all objects act as if all of their mass is gathered at the center of mass.

When an object falls towards the Earth, it is not falling down per say, it is instead falling towards the Earth's center of mass. To imagine this, imagine a hollow ball, and then a single dot right in the center of the ball, inside of it. That would be the ball's center of mass. In just the same way, the Earth's center of mass is inside of it, and all objects on Earth are pulled towards it. This is why people in the Southern Hemisphere do not fall off the Earth; they are pulled instead towards the center of the Earth.

I saw earlier that someone asked why the Moon doesn't fall into the Earth, or why the Earth doesn't fall into the Sun. And that is a very good question. The answer is that a Force, like gravity, causes an object to accelerate in a certain direction. If you drop an apple, it accelerates towards the Earth, and you can see that because it's velocity increases as it picks up speed.

Remember, however, that acceleration does not apply to merely changes in speed, but also to changes in direction. You can see this if instead of dropping the apple, you throw it up into the air first. It's original velocity has it traveling up, but after a few seconds it seems to stop in mid-air for a split second, and then it falls towards the Earth again. During it's time in the air, it started with a certain speed, slowed down as it got higher until eventually it stopped moving for an instant, and then it started speeding up towards the Earth.

The reason the Moon and Earth do not collide (and this also extends to the Earth and Sun) is because the Moon is continuously accelerating towards the Earth. However, it's speed is not changing, but it's direction is. It's a little difficult to get a good picture in your mind, so I'll use a car analogy again.

In some places, towns in the United States and in Europe have traffic circles. If you were to start driving in one at a constant 15 mph, your speed would not be changing very much, just like the moon's speed does not change very much. However, as you continue turning, your velocity is changing since your direction keeps changing. The Moon is "falling" towards the Earth, and the Earth towards the Sun, in much the same way.


As for the third experiment, take a balloon and draw a circle on it before you blow it up. Then, as you blow it up, watch the area inside the circle you drew. You can see that as the balloon gets larger, the area inside the circle you drew looks to become flatter and flatter. If you were able to continue blowing the balloon up larger and larger, the area in the circle would eventually look so close to being flat that your eyes would not be able to tell that it's still curved.

This is the case of the Earth. It looks flat because the Earth is so large that human eyes are unable to tell the difference between the Earth's curvature and a flat plane.

There are non-mathematical ways to tell if the Earth is spherical or not. A simple, although expensive, way to do it would be to simply pick a direction, any direction, and continue heading in only that direction. By car over land, and ship or plane over the oceans and so forth. Eventually you will arrive back at your starting location, which is only possible i the Earth is shaped like a ball.

Another indicator is that if you were on a ship and you were looking towards land, you would see the peaks of mountains or the tops of very tall buildings before you'd see the base of them. This is because of the Earth's curvature; the bases of these objects are still obscured by the Earth, but the top of them is visible since they're tall enough.
