I have read the Holy KJV some 1500 times, I find no reference to any time that the earth was covered in ice. Water yes(See the great flood and Noah). In the 6000 plus years sense God created the earth, when has all the ice melted?

This core, while not very big, has a massive mass because it is a combination of tightly packed, scalding metals in the form of liquid. It is very heavy, and has a lot of mass.
