It was my impression the 'traditional pirate' (that is, an Englishman committing brigandage on a sailing vessel in the Caribbean) was for the the most part an unrepentant sodomite.

Well the Gospel does make it clear one should try not to consume too much

1. A PIRATE WOULD DRINK SOME GROG.

When I have been having a hard time, or life is just getting me down, you know what I do? I buckle my saber, abduct my wench, and speed to the docks to commandeer the nicest ship there. I have a vacation upon the high seas and nothing will get me down.
I drink my grog and thrust myself upon the same wench, and nothing could be better.
