Re: Is Landover Baptist Church a CULT?
i simply believe in change. the will of humanity pushing against a never ending struggle to change adapt grow and move forward. nothing has and ever will stop humans from evolving becoming smarter never ending changes to adversity we all call life. from that you could say i dont believe in anything but the knowledge that nothing has and ever will be the same for everything is forever changing.

Let me ask you: Why do you believe what you do (which on preview is change)? And to save some time, what I really want to know is the why of the why of the why for that question-- each time you think you have the answer, ask why again. Can you just ask why forever? Do you find yourself in a loop? Or is there some point where you say, "I'm not sure... Maybe for no reason at all?"Acts 13:8 And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

Originally posted by PureEvil View Postthis doesnt answer many of my questions. what i want to know is why do people choose to believe? why do people wish to put faith into a book? is it comfort? is it understanding? is it an escape? what strives people to want this? is this all that is to be trusted? if so why? my understanding of religion and all religion for that matter is built and structured around faith but first one must believe to believe once must renounce everything to believe in the words and will of something written in paper? tell me this.
Mormons believe their goofy religion with the magic underwear and imminent metamorphosis into galactic X-men because they've been conditioned to do so. From stories their parents tell them, to images around their homes and churches, to experiencing great pleasure and peace at times when reading their silly story books, they assume the tales they've been told are true.
Muslims believe their absurd religion with the flying horses and Hugh Hefner inspired heaven because they've been conditioned to do so. From stories their parents tell them, to studying their violent book, to believing the inside of a woman's elbow is as hot as her cooter, they assume the tales they've been told are true.
However, each of these examples always, and without exception, produce doubt when reality refuses to comply to expectations. Children grow out of Santa Clause when they realize how impossible the mechanics of flying around the world in one night with flying reindeer is. But Mormons and Muslims don't often grow out of their mythologies. One might wonder how a child manages to grow out of one belief and not another.
One need only see the negative consequences of doing so to understand why they continue to suppress those natural doubts. From social ostracizition to credible threats of death, they learn to police their own thinking, rewarding the appropriate thoughts with feeling insightful, and punishing the negative with feelings of quilt and shame.
This is proof that in all the beliefs that have ever existed in the history of mankind, the human soul is unsatisfied until it hears of the Truth. Jesus tells us that He is the Truth, and the Truth shall set us free (John 8:32). I believe this is what He means. He will set us free from sin, from doubt, from guilt, from shame. He will fill that God-Shaped hole in our hearts if we but hearken unto His knock upon our heart's door.

Re: Is Landover Baptist Church a CULT?
in response to an earlier post what makes you say people are conditioned into believing what they hear? anyone with a strong will can make up their own mind of the right and wrong in life. what is the difference in conditioned into believing santa and being conditioned to believe in the bible? i believe you have made a moot point. in theory of your current post anyone can be conditioned into anything even the bible. this still does not cover my many questions of my previous post more like avoiding them.
