Nobody technically dies from any drug, it's always heart failure, liver failure, etc. So that's a really bad argument.

However, to overdose on pot, it is somewhere in the region of tens of thousands of "joints" in a very short time period to reach the blood levels required to kill you. One or two is more than enough to get you high. In comparison, 4 to 10 times the amount of alcohol it takes to get you drunk could kill you.

Nobody is quite sure what is does to help the plants, though some theories are that it is there to protect the plant from harmful UV rays, as it absorbs UV-B waves quite nicely. Equally, it could also discourage consumption, as you suggested.

My insurance agency says different.

Your insurance agency is also out there to make money and looking for every reason to avoid paying out, whereas Harvard is a research institute, so the results do not effect them.

And while it may be possible to believe that illnesses can be caused by God, why would he decide to punish tobacco smokers (the very places it tends to cause mutations have been identified), but (if this study is on to something) make people smoking pot better off?

Though you are all right in that what some people do to take drugs is a pretty horrific picture of how low a human can sink.
