Every discerning parent who has been blessed with a little child in his home realizes that his initial impression of the sweetness and the innocence of the child is in reality an illusion. A child very quickly demonstrates his fallen, depraved nature and reveals himself to be a selfish little beast in manifold ways. As soon as the child begins to express his own self-will (and this occurs early in life) that child needs to receive correction. With the help of the Holy Ghost, Mr. Etheldreda and I have so far successfully made sure that each of our children has his will broken long before he reaches the age of one year. Parents who realize the importance of reigning in their children's self-will only after they have outgrown blanket training and can out run the speed of a swinging rod may find a suitable husband via... er, spontaneous, one-sided trysts. In this way, a True Christian(tm) father can offer his daughter a chance for Salvation (1 Timothy 2:15), and thus a last chance to avoid Satan's Lair.

Look, friend, you are thinking of this the wrong way.

You see, God knows what is best for us. Think of it like a parent dealing with an ignorant child. Sometimes the parent has to make the child do something he doesn't want to do and doesn't understand the point of. The child might think the dress shirt is stiff and itchy. He might think the tie is too constrictive and the dress shoes are too tight and pinch his toes. But the parent makes him get dressed for church anyway, because the parent knows what is best for the child.
