As far as I know, one can't be Jewish and Atheist at the same time...

Judaism is a religion, and Atheism is the absence of believing in a god, which Judaism does. They don't mix, just like you can't have an object that's both a cube and a sphere.

Oh, for the love of heaven. When will you people be able to distinguish between someone who is ethnically a Jew and someone who follows the Jewish religion of Judaism. I promise you that it is quite possible to be a Jew and an atheist. It is possible to even be a Jew and a Christian or a Jew and a Muslim.

I suspect that certain here are going to argue about this. But in case some of you have half a brain, I will point out again that one can be of the Jewish race without being of their religion. Is this so hard to grasp?

Judaism is a religion, and Atheism is the absence of believing in a god, which Judaism does. They don't mix, just like you can't have an object that's both a cube and a sphere.

But being Jewish does not mean that one follows the Judaic religion. Yes. Sometimes people use the word "Jew" to mean of the Judaic faith, but that is a metaphoric and confusing use of it.

Jew can have two meanings, if you like. The purely ethnic or racial meaning and the religious one. Usually, and more correctly, it simply means someone of the Jewish race, and not necessarily of the Judaic religion.

I missed one of your posts and added another of my own, we were cross posting. I didn't mean to labour the point unnecessarily, since I think we may have come to some agreement about what I admit is the ambiguity of the word Jew.
