    God hates exercise?

I pose this as a question because it's something I've never really thought about until just now. I do not exercise, personally. I work too hard during the day to have any energy left afterward to fritter away on non-essential activity. I recall some scripture on the subject but would really appreciate some True Christian™ input!
1 Corinthians 9:25-26 "And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they [do it] to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:"
Seems to me, though, that the sentiment in the above Scripture is quite negative towards such mindless activities as running around a track, lifting weights, aerobics, etc. What do you think?

Have you examined it in context, Brother?

And are you quite certain you're not interpreting?

      Re: God hates exercise?

Personally, I've found that smoking two or so packs of cigarettes a day helps me keep my figure without wasting time exercising. This lets me focus on things that are profitable for all aspects of my life, rather than those that merely profiteth little.

"For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come." 1 Timothy 4:8

I do think I may have not been taking the time to study the Bible as much as I should lately, though. I've had a bad hacking cough and nagging chest pains lately, so I've been thinking God is a little displeased with me.
"Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him." Matthew 21:31-32

The overall message is spiritual in nature, not physical. However, I just cannot believe that the specific examples used to create the metaphor do not denote literal truth, themselves. In other words, when Paul writes disparagingly about beating the air and running without purpose, I think it means that Paul literally does not condone such behaviors.
And are you quite certain you're not interpreting?
I was not certain. I am more certain now, armed with the scripture provided by good Sister Lycia. I was also reminded of the Prayer of Jabez. For example, rather than take matters into my own hands, praying at the altar of iron, lifting up heavy weights to increase my own strength, I should bow down before the Lord My God and ask to be Blessed with Strength.
1 Chronicles 4:10 "And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep [me] from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested."
If I need fitness, health, strength or any other attribute, seems to me that it's most appropriate to humbly call upon the Lord that he might grant that which I request.

What a wonderful idea! I will pray that God provides me the funds to purchase 2... maybe 3 ...packs a day. I've heard that nicotine helps elevate one's metabolism. Tobacco must have been created just to help Man maintain good health.

            Re: God hates exercise?

As the Scripture says, everything in moderation. Certainly God does want us to take care of our bodies (1 Cor. 6:19-20), but at the same time does not want us to obsessively focus on it to the point of vanity, like that Situation guy on Jersey Shore (1 Sam. 16:7, Prov. 31:30, 1 Peter 3:3-4). The key point is moderation, and hey, if cigarettes work to keep you slim, then there's nothing wrong with that!

A while back I released a Christian exercise video. You might be interested in purchasing it. As a fellow True Christian(tm), I am willing to give you an extremely generous 5% discount!

Does the scripture say, in Nehemiah 8:10-12, that we may eat the fat and drink sweet drinks? If this is so, why do the leaders of our government wish to persecute those of us who may carry a little extra weight?

Because the work of the Lord is heavy, should we not be strong and heavy ourselves, rather than frail and skinny?

I do not recall any scriptures refering to our Lord and Saviour doing aerobics or the abomination that is "jazzercise." Certainly He did not jog to His Sermon on the Mount wearing ankleweights and a Speedo.

I will humbly recommend Praise-r-cise, but no other work other than the work of the Lord.
