    lost faith

i'm posting this because i'm lost. god is dead to me, he did it with his own hands. you see, about 8 years ago my family and i were in a car accident, my mother, father, and sister were all instantly killed, i was thrown from the vehicle and suffered minor injuries. my family and i went to church everyday, i played the drums in our worship band every sunday mass and friday night at our youth fellowship meetings. my family were good people. why did this happen to us?

what i'm getting at is how can there even be a god? a god who says he loves all of his children. that god is full of it. if he does exist, he can go straight to hell.

    Re: lost faith

Son, my heart goes out to you.

Surely the horrible deaths of your family served a Higher Good.

God is all-knowing, and we cannot know His mighty plan for man. Perhaps your family's maimed, bloody, contorted corpses were meant as a sign to rejuvenate your faith! Perhaps the emergency medical personnel were moved by the sight to affirm their own faith in the Lord.

For sorrow can move men to faith in Him, Who is the Fount and Origin of all sorrow in this mortal world.

Mine eye also is dim by reason of sorrow, and all my members are as a shadow.

Upright men shall be astonied at this, and the innocent shall stir up himself against the hypocrite. Job 17:7, 8

But you may rest assured that your family is now with Jesus. (Assuming they were Baptists, of course. If they were Methodists or Pentacostals or Catholics then they are in Hell and good riddance.)

God's great Plan for Man included Dachau and the killing fields of the Khmer Rouge, so do not dwell in misery! Don't worry, be happy! Your loss is a tiny fraction of what God hath wrought over the centuries.

        Re: lost faith

Not at all, lad, not at all.

Incidentally, please avoid chat-kiddie short-cutting of the English language, like writing "r u" for the words are you. Remember, English was good enough for God when He wrote the King James Bible, and it's good enough for Christian souls.

        ----

Now then, as I have explained, God has a Plan for Man, and your family's death just happened to be part of that plan.

God's mighty Plan also included the deaths of around 800,000 people in the Rwandan genocide.

Now, we are assured -- for we have sure word of prophecy! -- that it all will turn out all right in the end. (As I said, for Baptists it will.) Jesus will return in glory, God will triumph over evil, and Christians will rule the Earth: the Kingdom of God on Earth, as foretold in Revelation.

The tragedy you experienced, while sad, was God's will.

Now, you could turn away from God. Where does that leave you, morally speaking? Your family's death then becomes a consequence of physics: the mass and trajectory of the car, the friction between road and tires.

It has no universal moral significance.

However, an atheist might say: "OF COURSE it has moral significance. The death of a man is morally significant because mankind defines morality: good and evil are defined by humanity, not by the universe."

I understand this argument, though it is weak cheese with me.

An atheist would grieve over your loss because it is a human loss, and every human loss is evil.

A Christian must celebrate your loss because it is part of God's greater good. He can only celebrate the death of your family:

For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 1 Corinthians 15:53-55

Thus the Christian should, logically, welcome the death of his loved ones, for it means that they put off their corruptible mortal bodies and take up the incorruptible blessing of everlasting life.

        Doesn't that make sense?

Have you read the Book of Job? Or the Book of Ecclesiastes? God killed your family for a good reason. Maybe He wanted to win a bet or something.

Hey, we didn't kill your family, we just pointed out that you should celebrate it. How are we the bad guys in all this? No need to be such a Negative Nigel about your relatives being called home to Glory.
O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it--for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.

God being truth, justice, goodness, beauty, power, and life, man is falsehood, iniquity, evil, ugliness, impotence, and death. God being master, man is the slave. Incapable of finding justice, truth, and eternal life by his own effort, he can attain them only through a divine revelation... he who desires to worship God must harbor no childish illusions about the matter, but bravely renounce his liberty and humanity.

What? Because we rejoice your love ones are with Christ in Heaven now? By your' own story they were all good Christians. Clearly Jesus called them home to be with them.

                  Ah, so?

Not up for a reasoned moral discussion, then, I take it. Too bad.

On the .01% chance that you were not merely trolling Landover with your sad story, certainly I would sympathize with your loss. But I am a realist, and I am 99.99% sure your story was pure baloney. (Only a fool would come on a forum and spill intimate details about his life in his very first post. I don't think you're quite that stupid.)

Actually, reviewing your post, I am dead-certain sure it is a troll. D'oh. Get real.

So I imagine your refusal to enter the discussion is simply cowardice.

                  *shrugs*

So the heathen shall fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth thy glory. Psalm 102:15

No skin off my tongue, really, but the discussion could have been interesting. Our congregation has some interesting chats now and then, here in our online home.

We have some fun. You could too.

Well clearly the Lord was sending you a divine message right there, honey. You'd better get to repenting and praying that he doesn't smite y'all down to the flame pit along with the others who were in that car. Aren't you glad you have this chance to be Saved and avoid hell, honey?

Not everyone is a child of God.
But one becomes a child of God by faith in Jesus Christ. (Galatians 3:26)
And God doesn't love everyone either, that is a lie straight from the pits of hell. (Psalm 5:5)

You're right in that an allmighty God who loves everyone would contradict reality..
But the solution to the so-called "problem of evil" is very simple and found in the Bible:
God doesn't love everyone. It's as simple as that.
If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: But if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.
A foolish woman is clamorous: She is simple, and knoweth nothing.
                      Proverbs 9:12-13

I suggest you try growing up instead.. You can't win against God.
You'd be so much better off repenting of your sins and accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, that way you can avoid going to hell.
Please, won't you do this now?
