    How to survive the morning

This is by a Kiwi poet,Kevin Ireland & seems especially relevant to us here just now.

    How To Survive The Morning"

You stare out of the window and notice how dawn
blazes from the sea. You can actually smell
the sun smouldering at the edges of the world.

You live in dangerous circumstances. Every morning
someone burns out. Those you love melt away
No one is willing to stay. The dead forget to tell you.

where they are going. You are advised that the best way
of passing the time is to read a book. You have to stick
to the words. Gardening is also useful, for you must plan

And always someone calls on you, or invites you out
You are encouraged towards activities that are designed
to help Create a Structure or Establish a Routine.

Then one day you will find, as you scan the horizon
that it is past noon. The sun has entirely gone up
in smoke. There is a stifling odour of dust and ashes.

Yet time has got you through the hard bits without once
whingeing or groaning. It soon becomes the hour
to walk the dog. after which you will tell yourself

that you have earned a biscuit, a piece of cheese
and a glass of wine. Orderliness has come
to your rescue. You have got through a whole day

Another Kiwi poet, James K Baxter.

    High country weather

    Alone we are born
    And die alone;
    Yet see the red-gold cirrus
    Over snow-mountain shine

    Upon the upland road
    Ride easy, stranger
    Surrender to the sky
    Your heart of anger.
    ------------------------------------------

    And...lowering the tone considerably.

    The Streaker by Richard Langston

    Vaults the fence
    a flash of Christmas hams
Decency startles under a towelling hat
    Uniforms awake

    He streaks
    An idiot, an anarchist
a hairy pink skin--full of beer

    Bare arsed cheek
taken out by a headlong dive of officialdom

    The march back
    to the disappointment of clothes.

I had no idea that fruit could write poetry, much less terrible, depressing godless poetry.

HEY! We can do depressing poetry with the best of them.

      Cop this lot!

EREBUS VOICES "The Mountain" by Bill Manhire.

I am here beside my brother,Terror.
I am the place of human error

      I am beauty and cloud,and I am sorrow;
I am tears which you will weep tomorrow.

I am the sky and the exhausting gale,
I am the place of ice.I am the debris trail.

      And I am still a hand,a fingertip,a ring.
I am what there is no forgetting.

I am the one with truly broken heart.
      I watched them fall,and freeze,and break apart.

      --------------------------------------------------------

      Rain

      I can hear you
      making small holes
      in the silence
      rain

      If I were deaf
      the pores of my skin
      would open to you
      and shut

      And I
      should know you
      by the lick of you
      if I were blind

      the something
      special smell of you
      when the sun cakes
      the ground

      the steady
      drum-roll sound
      you make
      when the wind drops

      But if I
      should not hear
      smell or feel or see
      you

      you would still
      define me
      disperse me
      wash over me
      rain

          I LIKE Bub Bridger.

          BLATANT RESISTANCE by Bub Bridger.

I have a new scarlet coat and
I look like a fire engine
          And I don’t give a damn
          One should grow old gracefully
          Someone said - I don’t know who
But I’ve heard it all my life and
So have you well to hell with that
I refuse to grow old any way
But reluctantly and bold as brass
And when arthritis bites in all
My bones and sleep sulks outside
My bedroom window in the dark
I just toss and turn and scratch
And swear the hours away I’m not
          Growing older--its the stupid
          Betrayal of bones and flesh
That makes me feel this way but

Look at me now with springs in
My heels and the wind in my hair
          Any moment I’ll start whistling
And might even dance a jig
And stop all the traffic along the
Quay wearing my new scarlet coat
And looking like a fire engine.

Ode to Jokers by Bub Bridger.

I find falling in love so easy
cos theres thousands of beautiful guys
The world is alive with the darlings
          Of every colour and size
They’re there in the streets to be ogled
On foot and riding in cars
On buses and trains and on aeroplanes
In shops. At the pictures In bars.
And oh! at the beaches in summer!
All youth and shoulders and thighs....
I go down there and I sit and stare
With big dark shades on my eyes
And no-one would ever believe it
As my eyes dart about with sly stealth
They think I’m a lovely old lady--
That I’m there for the good of my health---
But I’m not.... Its the jokers I covet
All that flesh on those beautiful bones
And the smiles and the teeth and the torsos!
          And all those erogenous zones!

Right now I’m ready for action
I’m dying to fall one more time
In over my head and right into bed
With a toy boy just into his prime!
So come on you gorgeous young fellas
I’d like to show you the way
With a boy about forty I could be quite naughty
So take me! And lead me astray....

I cannot of course swear to love you
To be faithful for e,er and a day
But I really am kind and will keep you in mind
If you prove that you know how to... play...
So just leave your telephone numbers
In a box you’ll find as you go
And I’ll give you all rings you lovely young things
And invite you all up for.... you know...
          -------------------------------------------------
Next Time Around by Bub Bridger.

My elderly body has fallen from grace
It has fallen about all over the place
There are bits of it here that ought to be there
And a hell of a lot that ought not to be anywhere.
My hair has turned white--my face is now puggish
My dentures cant bite and my sex drive is sluggish....
Time was when all men were keener than mustard
But alas now its years since anyone lusted
To get me alone in a fine feathered bed
And rock me and lock me and beg me to wed
And indeed if they did, I could not perform
My actions at best would only be lukewarm....

Now I watch all young men with eyes that are sad
Recalling the days when I drove them mad
And knowing that now I am over the hill
And with even a way,I,d not have the will....
          I,ve taken to knitting,and gossip,and gin!
Theres nothing else for it--- I,ve had to give in
The curse of old age has deadened my senses
And all that was young is now in past tenses.

          BUT
If there is truth in reincarnation
You bet I,ll be back! Come hellor damnation
I wont make the mistakes I made in the past
I,ll lead the good life and I,ll live it fast!
I,ll let passion sway me to swoon and give in
To beautiful men intent upon sin
I,ll quaff all the wine and I,ll pluck all the fruit
And morals and virtue can go down the chute!
I had them in this life---- I made them my goal!
And where did that get me? Down a bloody great hole!

SO BRING ON THE NEXT LIFE!
          I,M READY TO R-O-O-O-L-L-L-L-L!

And the older I get,the more I like her.
In order to be old & wise, you must first be young & stupid.

I safely predict that Hobbit literature will not be an accredited course in any respected university anytime soon.

I have to admit the first poem did start out okay, though, before it descended into a teenaged emo complete suck imitation apparently written by a middle-aged housewife who has forgotten what youthful angst is all about.

Maybe she'll write a new poem, actually worth reading, now that half her country has been destroyed by God.

I'm not understand very well the poems Lilith but I think perhaps is because of bad poets tradicion in your country your poems aren't reach hearts of people. The Word of God is the alone true poetry, aren't you think?

I'm sure you can see from there just HOW worried I am, BJ.

@Sister Mari Juana Any poetry selection from Lilith will be far from our hearts, I fear. New Zealand specialises in heathens - and I notice that this Lilith has been determined a Night Hag. There might be a picture somewhere..

                        oh, yes - there is!

I'm not sure what stage Lilith is up to..

I don't know what this thread is about, but I can't survive the morning without a big cup of coffee.
May you be a blessing to every life you touch.
