The U.S. Justice Department says eight individuals were arrested Sunday for allegedly carrying out long-term, "deep-cover" spying in the United States on behalf of the Russian Federation.

Two additional defendants were also arrested Sunday for allegedly participating in the same Russian intelligence program within the United States.

In total, 11 defendants, including the 10 arrested, are charged in two separate criminal complaints with conspiring to act as unlawful agents of the Russian Federation within the United States.

Federal law prohibits individuals from acting as agents of foreign governments within the United States without prior notification to the U.S. Attorney General. Nine of the defendants are also charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering.

The defendants known as "Richard Murphy" and "Cynthia Murphy" were arrested yesterday by FBI agents at their residence in Montclair, N.J., and are expected to appear in federal court in Manhattan today.

Vicky Pelaez and the defendant known as "Juan Lazaro" were arrested yesterday at their residence in Yonkers, N.Y., and are expected to appear in federal court in Manhattan today. Anna Chapman was arrested in Manhattan yesterday and is expected to appear in federal court in Manhattan today.

The defendants known as "Michael Zottoli" and "Patricia Mills" were arrested yesterday at their residence in Arlington, Va., and are appearing in federal court in Alexandria, Va., today.

Defendant Mikhail Semenko was arrested yesterday at his residence in Arlington and is appearing in federal court in Alexandria today. In addition, the defendants known as "Donald Howard Heathfield" and "Tracey Lee Ann Foley" were arrested at their residence in Boston yesterday and are appearing in federal court in Boston today. The defendant known as "Christopher R. Metsos" remains at large.

The charge of conspiracy to act as an agent of a foreign government without notifying the U.S. Attorney General carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison. All the defendants are charged with this violation. The charge of conspiracy to commit money laundering carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. All the defendants except Chapman and Semenko are charged with this violation.

This case is the result of a multi-year investigation [Edit: started by Pres Bush, who knew how to deal with these things] conducted by the FBI; the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York; and the Counterespionage Section and the Office of Intelligence within the Justice Department’s National Security Division.

The answer seems to lie in

Note: Paul did not use his God Given Gift to smite Elymas utterly as he should have done and so evil and superstition remained on the Island; the end result was that in the 2nd Century AD, Christians were expelled from Cyprus.

What has this to do with Russian spies? Well, Elymas’ influence towards Socialism and Corruption is still there on Cyprus. Obama knew this. Bush controlled Cyprus and, if he wanted to so could Obama. But Obama has his own plan to bring down America and give aid and comfort to her enemies!

The Russian espionage drama intensfied tonight as the alleged paymaster in the "deep cover" spy ring failed to answer bail in Cyprus.

An arrest warrant was issued for Christopher Metsos, the 11th suspected member of the operation, after he failed to report to a police station in Larnaka, the Guardian has learned.

Metsos, 55, was arrested in Cyprus on Tuesday but, to the surprise of Cypriot police, was released on bail. Ten other accused are in custody in the US, after the FBI broke up the alleged ring on Monday.

"An arrest warrant has been issued and if found he will be arrested immediately," an officer at the police station in Larnaka told the Guardian. "He has broken his pledge to be here."

Metsos was first stopped at 9am yesterday at Larnaca airport by officers acting on an Interpol "red notice", moments before he was about to board a plane to Budapest.

Appearing before a district court judge, Metsos was told he could walk free, pending an extradition hearing within 30 days, if he posted €20,000 (£16,000) bail.

Metsos, who is thought to have been travelling on a Canadian passport, is believed to have returned immediately to his hotel in Larnaca, which he had checked out of only hours before.

OK? Get that $20,000 bail! You get that for a parking ticket in Texas! But let's move on:

On the hotel registry, under “Country arrived from,” he [Metsos] had written Canada. He did not write down his next destination.

Perhaps he has moved to another location in Larnaca, to escape the photographers and reporters who swarm the hotel. But there are other options.

Most taxi drivers here, for about $50, will happily drive you across the Green Line, the border that divides Cyprus from the Turkish-occupied semi-state of North Cyprus; they will usually take back roads to avoid border checks. It is easy to cross the border without a passport.

Once in North Cyprus, a flight to Turkey, available on half a dozen small airlines flying from several airports, counts as a domestic journey, and therefore does not require a passport.

The harbour of Larnaca, a few minutes' walk from the hotel, is swarming with private charter craft of all sizes, with captains happy to take visitors on jaunts to the shores of Turkey, Israel, Lebanon or Syria.

Throughout its history, Cyprus has served as a place from which to escape the West.

Whom I wonder would Metsos have named as the real Head Man of the Spy-Ring...? Someone in Pennsylvania Avenue?
