What's so wrong about a great thing like Outsourcing?

As anyone who is familiar with my popular televangelist program knows, on the bottom of the screen there is a 1-900 number for a 24-hour prayer hotline. I was maintaining a staff of about 40 people to field these calls. A faithful viewer calls and for the low price of $3.95 a minute + $50 love offering, they are able to talk to a member of our staff and relay their prayer to them.

Now, hard times have hit on America, and I've also become a victim of this wintry economic climate (THANKS OBAMA!). I had to foreclose on one of my Italian Riviera villas and I recently how to sell my share of one of my private golf courses in Hawaii. So, I had to tighten up my belt and save money. The obvious solution was to fire all my American staff workers and outsource the prayer hotline to India.

It makes fiscal sense. I was already paying minimum wage to my American workers, and I have to deal with all that OSHA and nanny-state government law BS, like half-hour lunches, breaks, health and safety codes, etc. I can pay my Indian workers 75% less an hour to do the same job as the Americans.

Well, my staff started feeling entitled. They said I left them out in the cold by laying off everyone en masse with three days notice. One lady who worked for me for 10 years even had the gall to demand a couple weeks severance from me. Excuse me? Why should I pay someone weeks of work when they do no work? I even tried to compromise by agreeing to retain my American workers, but at the equivalent of Indian wages (which would of course be paid under the table.) They balked at my generous offer.

This socialist mindset is destroying America. Don't people realize that what makes America great is the free exercise of capitalism? Don't they realize what is best for the CEOs and richest 1% is best for the whole country? Didn't they listen to the Godly President Reagan and understand how trickle-down economics work? If I get richer, I spend the money, and that money goes back into the economy. It keeps the life blood flowing.

There is no better way of protecting American jobs than by outsourcing them so that companies can save money, and thereby stimulate the economy better. Has our country gone mad?

Obama has turned us into communist Russia. At lest we have jobs, otherwise as white men we wouldn't be even allowed to apply for new ones. The entitlement from American workers is just sickening.

I agree that the ingrates deserve severance pay, but only in the amount of a one-way steerage ticket to India where you are still more than willing to keep them on the payroll, at prevailing wages with no benefits until earned.

You are absolutely correct, outsourcing is the way to go. Like you, I got tired of all those ridiculous "workers' rights" regulations like giving employees coffee, lunch and bathroom breaks. What's wrong with eating while you work? As for the bathroom, in our factories we deliberately don't pave the floor with concrete - this enables our workers to relieve themselves right there on the dirt floor, then use a shovel at the end of the day to turn over the soil. This is natural organic composting, which is good for the environment, so the greenies should approve. Furthermore, it's easier on the workers' feet - standing on concrete hurts when you don't have shoes.

That having been said, there are a couple of points where, quite frankly, you could have handled the lay-offs better:

Big mistake giving three days notice. They make take those three days to provide bad service, say bad things to your customers, steal items from the office, etc. The best thing to do is give no notice - just send a text message after they've left work saying that they're fired, and can pick up their personal items from the cardboard box you've thoughtfully placed next to the dumpster out in the parking lot.

Good point about the severance pay, but again, hiring back your laid-off staff (even at Indian wages) is a non-starter. You'll get all kinds of grumbling, employee sabotage, etc. If you still want to hire workers in America, you're much better off with illegal aliens, who are too terrified of being deported to make any trouble when you underpay them.

A big Amen! to all of the above. Trickle down economics does benefit American consumers. For example, even though I put almost all of my billions into my Swiss bank account and the vault in Hong Kong where I keep gold bars, a least a few million trickles back to the USA in the form of bribes to congressmen and senators. And let's not forget that my company's pay-day loan business provides quick cash to middle class American consumers at a mere 400% annual interest rate.

Absolutely true! And once we get American wages down to the level of China, I think there's great potential for American workers to find jobs abroad. Massage parlors in Moscow and Beijing are already looking for young American women who would like a working-holiday (typically five years) abroad. After the recent disaster in Chile where a mine collapsed trapping workers, the Chileans are considering bringing in low-wage laborers from the Third World - again, this is a great opportunity for unemployed Americans, if only they weren't so spoiled by Obama's socialism.

If it weren't for the genius who invented outsourcing, nearly every product in America would be built by clumsy, fat, unionized Americans and cost 25-50% more. Trust me--- Americans are much better off saving money on foreign products and enjoying their ample leisure time than toiling in factories under the domination of Big Labor. Besides, homes and cars and economic security are big responsibilities, anyway. Most people don't want the hassle.

At lest 10% of the American work force will never have to work again thanks to outsourcing. That's created a leisure class unprecedented in American history. Maybe they should stop whining and think how lucky they are.

Good point, Brother Bobby. And thanks to credit cards, the whole notion of working for a living is becoming obsolete. All the banks need to do is bundle together thousands of credit card debts into a collateralized debt obligation and sell it to a pension fund, with 100% backing (ie bailouts) by the federal government. This is reasonable because it will lead to small government - as Grover Norquist famously said, "My goal is to cut government in half in 25 years to get it down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub." I can assure Grover that we will "drown it" in much less than 25 years.

I also think this makes it very clear why we need to have legalized gambling in all 50 states. With so many Americans now liberated from the workforce, there needs to be a way for them to spend their leisure time. Casinos offer that, plus the added benefit of being able to supplement one's credit card income. Gambling is certainly a more pleasant way to spend your day than standing on a street corner with a "Will work for food" sign.

Some states have wisely legalized gambling, with the restriction that you must be an Injun to open a casino. I know that seems racist to some people, but I was able to get around that by proving that my great-great-great-great grandfather was a member of the now-extinct Shmohawk tribe. I was also able to document that slot machines and roulette wheels were part of our sacred traditional culture.

Aside from bailouts, another appropriate role for small government would be to bring back debtors' prisons. Of course, those prisons should be privatized.

The people that are against outsourcing are the same people who were against mining companies in the 1800's paying their employees with credit to general stores owned by the company that sold items at a much higher price than other general stores.

Thank you for the advice, Fred! I am a man of God first and a businessman second, so I don't have the expertise in management like you do. I now realize how "soft" I was on my employees. Giving them three days notice and offering to let them keep their jobs at Indian pay....come to think of it, those are pretty liberal, unionized ideas! Now that I have a whole new batch of employees in Bangalore, I'm not going to be making the same mistakes. I'll clamp down even harder on them, lest they interpret my generosity as a weakness.
