Texas megachurch pastor on gay sex: Plug into wrong outlet and get blown to ‘smithereens’
Robert Jeffress, Televangelist, Compares Homosexuality, Gay Sex To Plugging TV Into 'Wrong Outlet'
First Baptist Church Pastor Robert Jeffress offered up a shocking analogy during a discussion of homosexuality.
Appearing on the Trinity Broadcasting Network’s "Praise the Lord," Jeffress suggested that gay sex was "like plugging a TV into a 220-volt power outlet rather than the recommended 120 outlet," adding that the act would "blow the TV to smithereens."
As Right Wing Watch reports, Jeffress also discussed recent controversy surrounding New York Jets' quarterback Tim Tebow's decision to drop out of a scheduled appearance at his Dallas magachurch.
Jeffress, of course, is no stranger to making anti-gay declarations. Last year, the Christian Post reported Jeffress was urging his ministry to support Chick-fil-A in the midst of the media firestorm over the fast food restaurant's confirmed contributions to anti-gay organizations. As Right Wing Watch points out, he also warned that gay people could begin to molest children.
“People ask, how could you got speak at such a hateful church such as First Baptist Dallas?” Jeffress recalled to host Bil Cornelius. “If you’re listening tonight, it doesn’t matter what your faith is or isn’t, it doesn’t matter who you are, whether you’re a homosexual, an adulterer, a liar or a cheat. It doesn’t matter. Christ is able to forgive you of your sin. That’s the message of hope that we have, but the media has turned that into a hateful message.”
The Texas televangelist explained that his church was “not out of the mainstream of historic conservative Christianity,” but “the culture has changed.”
“But the reason God gave us that standard [of straight sex] is not because he hates us, it’s because he loved us,” Jeffress opined. “I want you to think about this, one time in Heaven, God was sitting up there with his sketch pad and he said, ‘You know, I’m going to design human beings and wouldn’t it be fun if they started doing this together with one another?’ I mean, think about it. God dreamed up sex! He thought it up for our enjoyment! He gave us the equipment to enjoy it with.”
The pastor went on to tell a story about how a repairman had recently come to his house to repair a TV that was several years old, and suggested that the TV’s electrical cord was similar to a gay man’s penis.
“You know, in the instruction manual, it said, now plug this into a 120 [volt] outlet. Suppose I said, ‘Oh, I’m not going to follow those instructions, those are antiquated instructions. I’m going to plug it into a 220 [volt] outlet. It’s my TV and I can do whatever I want to with it.”
Jeffress added: “Well, it is my TV to do what I want to with it, but I’m going to blow that TV to smithereens if I put it in a 220 outlet! The manufacturer made it, he knows how it operates best. The Bible is God’s instruction manual for us.”
