So I am not perfect. Just as I expected.

First, the Hakama is a traditional piece of clothing in several major sword arts like Kendo. it's design to be lose and flowing so as to hide the movements of your feet and give you a slight advantage. it also does resemble a skirt at the angle the figure in your picture was turned because you can't see the gap between the pants legs that proves that they're pants.

Second, not all anime and manga are based around the real efiminate male charachters, there are ones like this one http://www.adherents.com/lit/comics/...iest_manga.jpg which I don't think you'd disapprove of based on the cover.

Meaning what in a world full of fire arms? One reason why the Japanese lost WWII was they though a man with a sword was a match for a Godly US Marine with a Thompson.
