I visited the hardware store today to get some plastic tubing to extend my gutter drain spouts. It comes pre-packaged at 8' for 2.99, but it's also sold by the foot for 19c/ft. I wasn't born yesterday, so I bought 12' off the roll. I think that'll be enough.
I couldn't resist stopping for lunch next door at the Hop Sing Wong Wok place for the lunch special, Kung Pow chicken. I love all the peanuts. They have a different special each day for 5.99.
The lady who usually serves the food was in the back cooking so I had to order from a man I think it's her husband.
"Do you want small or large?"
I don't know, I just want the special that's posted on the door.
Then he charged me seven dollars even for my lunch. I was confused and asked if there was some new tax on restaurants that I didn't know about. He pointed at the menu where it costs 6.50. I pointed to the sign on the door that advertises 5.99. This is when the dirty Chinese got angry and said "we no charge that price no more". He walks right over to the sign and pulls it off the door and throws it in the trash.
Right now is when my brain starts whirring- I can't believe what's going on. I poked my finger in his face and told him that he was wrong, that you can't advertise your product for one price and then charge another at the register.
He grabbed the cash in my hand for some reason and angrily counted out an additional 50c from the register for me. "You pay fifty for tax now". I'm glad he didn't grab my lunch, too, at this point I was feeling really hungry. What was going on? Was he just keeping the change for a tip? You can bet that I didn't put it in the tip jar after being treated like that.
