The Higgs boson is the last particle (as far as I know) that remains unidentified in the standard model of particle physics, and is related to how gravitation forces are produced.
In short, if this particle is found, physics should be able to explain pretty much everything. The God Particle has already been identified:

The Higgs boson particle is a particle that explains the physics of an atom. It is known as the "God particle" because we are almost 100% sure that it exists, but we cannot see it, much like God.
Finding it isn't an attempt to kill God, but one used to better understand the world he gave us.Comment
